I never take the SD cards out of the camera, this can cause the problem you have, it really is not necessary to ever take SD cards out.

Huh? Really? Guess I have been doing it wring for 15 years then.

Have you given any thought to the millions of dash cams in use all over the world? Sitting in the windshield in the blazing sun of the tropics or the incredible cold of Siberia and Scandinavia. Your camera is not a delicate toy. Keep it out of direct sunlight. That's it. Besides, it's a safe bet that it has already experienced temperature extremes in the un-ventilated steel box that it traveled in from Asia to your hands.

Basically my thoughts on this too. Have you ever considered what your car goes through with temperature extremes. They have computers and LCD screens and they keep functioning. Would you keep your car in a cooler? You spend a lot more on your car but never give it a thought.

After seeing the 45 review on YouTube I would have no problem buying and using it. Money saved and not everything needs to be big name high dollar items to be effective and last.

Spend 500 on a Wimberly or 80 on this and use the money saved to travel to places to use it.

Lots of free tutorials on YouTube. Adam Gibbs channel can teach you a lot. Then again as others said it may just be time to put what you have already learned to practice.

Afraid after all that schooling you may be disappointed in your images. Practical experience and by experimenting your knowledge will grow in leaps and bounds.

These programs even allow some to proclaim they are artists and their works are art.
That is a really nice picture.

Do you not agree? Or are you saying it is the software and not the knowledge on how to use it or better yet visualize the final image before complete. The statement you made comes across as you do not believe it is art.

I used Blurb a few times and the last time the spine was about .25" too wide and looked bad compared to the book thickness. Emailed them and they printed a new one it came with the same issue. So I gave up at that point. I will use the again though.

I use FAA and am relatively happy. Not sure where the commission comment is coming from. They have a base price and you determine what you would want on top of that. I sell a little over one a month there. Nice think is they do all the work printing and shipping.

Had the best last fall and Christmas season payout since I have been there (2012). You have to market yourself which can take time and effort. You cannot sit back and wait for people to find you.

Great topic. Made me ponder.

I do it for the challenge, as being successful trying to shoot in difficult light

I do it because when freezing a fast moving action I can see things no one has.

I do it for the feeling I get when I see a young photog struggling and my tips make a difference.

I do it because sometimes an image is all I can take with me.

I do it because getting a good picture makes the effort, expense and time justified.

I do it because of the value a photo can have, when I see an old photo of a family member and I get to meet him/her for the first time. And when it lets me remember that person forever.

And for these and many other reasons I feel privileged I can do this.

Do I detect a little bragging here? That's OK. I took hundreds of pictures of artifacts, structures, machinery, documents and drawings at the Kennedy Gold Mine in Jackson, California as a volunteer with no pay and little thanks. I loved every minute of it because I was able to use what little skill I have for some purpose.

And, photography is fun. It gives me a chance to express myself, create some beauty and/or preserve some scene I think worthy of preserving. Mostly preserving. I am not much of an artist. Loosen up, relax and enjoy what you are good at doing.

Not bragging here, actually the opposite. I get compliments but still think I could or should do better. I enjoy what I am doing and put my work out there to share, which is hard to do for many of us. I am an introvert and that makes it hard to be prideful or boastful. This post was even difficult for me to share with my peers and makes me feel vulnerable and that makes me uncomfortable. If I came across as bragging it was not intended to be, my mild success seems like a dream to this day.

I like that you think you are a preservationist because that is what we all are as photographers. I am loosened up when I am out shooting and only get uptight when I can't get out and shoot more.

As good a manifesto on why we photograph as I have seen! There is so much grandeur, majesty and beauty in God's great creation, even down to the smallest details. And we are blessed with a camera and a desire to engage with this splendor. What could be better? Thanks for posting!

Thank you for the uplifting comments. A real reason to take photographs for sure.

I have known artists in every field who are very critical of their work noticing things that most of their consumer base never notice, have followed your work here and on Iowa through the Lens and in the magazine on Iowa and it is outstanding..getting your travel expenses paid for the last three years to do photography, I know many very accomplished amateur photographers, I am not one of them, who would be thrilled at that !!!

Thank you so much for the kind words. Great to see a fellow Iowa through the lens member here. It is comments such as yours that makes this a worthwhile endeavor and makes me want to do more. Keep at it and you will be where I am or further even.

Hi Duane, I posted a much longer reply under a similar topic a few weeks ago, so here is the short one; Every time I produce a successful image I get a deeply personal thrill. Each day I set out with my camera I'm chasing that thrill, also the light and that decisive moment.

Great you have it right I feel and the happiness and thrill is always great to experience and motivates us to keep on no matter the conditions. Thanks for the reply.

Post some pictures for us. We enjoy looking at pictures, and it sounds like none of us will be as critical as you are of your own work.

(In this case, I would recommend posting low-res though. You don't want to give away your work for free, nor do you need other people commenting on pixel-level issues.)

I have posted a number of images here but really enjoy looking at others work for a source of inspiration and motivation more than posting. We have some great photographers here for sure.

Agreed as long as you don't over do it and hinder that development. Comparing you work to others is also good to a point for inspiration and motivation unless it too is over done.
