If Hawaii would have been the 49th state instead of Alaska.the show Hawaii 50 would have been called Hawaii 49.

If Hawaii and Alaska had been at the same time the flag that was presented to me at my uncle’s funeral would have had 50 stars instead of 49.

I pay 14:99 a month for my tivo

Ugh! I’ve had my TiVo Roamio OTA for about six years and the only payment I’ve ever had to make was for the initial purchase. It is set up to do all my tuning of over the air stations and I record most of the programs my wife and I like so we can watch them at our leisure. When I program up to two weeks ahead it usually give’s details about the programs. I can also set it up so that it records series of programs without further intervention on my part.

Back in the days you can simply hook up your VCR built in tuner and record the TV programs off the air. A few years back when I still have my JVC D-VHS VCR and its accesories tuner with firewire output I could do the same and record HD programming in 1080i format.
Today what can you use to do that? I mean recording the off the air TV programming and only buy the equipment and not paying anyone for cable/streaming service etc....

I have a TiVo which records up to 4 programs simultaneously or 3 programs while you watch one other, all off the air. My antenna gets me six stations which have anywhere from 3 to six sub channels.

Last of the group!

The first one — I still have a collection about twice that size. On my previous car I could load the songs from ten albums into memory, but on my current car I have to put the cd in the slot and leave it there to hear its songs.

One morning a husband returns to the cabin after several hours of fishing and decides to take a nap.
Although not familiar with the lake, the wife decides to take the boat out, since it is such a beautiful day. She motors out a short distance, anchors, and reads her book.
Along comes a Game Warden in his boat. He pulls up alongside the woman and says," Good morning, Ma'am, what are you doing"?
"Reading a book," she replies, (thinking, "Isn't that obvious"?)
"You're in a Restricted Fishing Area," he informs her.
"I'm sorry, officer, but I'm not fishing, I'm reading."
"Yes, but you have all the equipment. I'll have to write you up a ticket."
"For reading a book"? she replies.
"You're in a Restricted Fishing Area," he informs her again.
"But officer, I'm not fishing, I'm reading."
"Yes, but you have all the equipment. For all I know you could start at any moment. I'll have to write you up a ticket and you'll have to pay a fine."
"If you do that, I'll have to charge you with sexual assault," says the woman.
"But I haven't even touched you," says the Game Warden.
"That's true, but you have all the equipment. For all I know you could start at any moment."
"Have a nice day ma'am," and he immediately departed.
MORAL: Never argue with a woman who reads. It's likely she can also think.

B-17 is probably thecoolest WW II era plane I can think of.
I’ll look into cking this out.
My Uncle Dick piloted 25 missions in Europe in a B-17 and lived!

My cousin Edwin was radio operator and gunner on B-17 that was shot down and he wound up in Stalag 2. I used to right letters to him at the P.O.W. camp (I was about 14 at that time)

Some of you may not be familiar with Tom Mix and his history in Hollywood. He was the very first western cowboy star, greatly admired for doing his own stunt work, a lot of which was extremely dangerous in those early film days. His work became the prototype performance for all the cowboy stars that proliferated in the coming years. During his years of acting....1909 to 1935....he was in the astounding number of 291 films. Only 9 of those were " talkies " , the rest were silent.

Because of his influence within the Hollywood industry, He was able to arrange for a young man he had met to enter the world of filmmaking. That young man was John Wayne, who was forever grateful to Mix for helping him to realize his dreams.

Mix was driving through Arizona in 1940 when he apparently failed to notice a sign warning of road repairs ahead. He ran off of the road an into a ditch. An aluminum briefcase he had on the rear seat flew forward, hit him in the head and killed him. It was stuffed full of money. The car here was the car he was driving when he crashed. It was repaired at the time but around 2010 it underwent an exhaustive and ultra-expensive complete restoration The car now is exactly as it was the day he died.

The car is a 1937 Cord 812 Phaeton. only 196 of this model were produced. But beyond that rarity is the fact this car is one of the 3 cars made that received a very exclusive option package...including the spare tire that was enclosed and hangs over the rear bumper. Tom Mix got this car, the jazz singer Al Jolson got one and the last one went to the actress Barbara Stanwick.

Tom Mix was one of my boyhood cowboy heroes back in the mid to late thirties when my brother and I played “cowboys and Indians” on my grandfather’s farm. I never knew how he died until I just read your piece. Thanks for the info and the photos of a really classic car.
