For those who responded appropriately to my questions...thank you. For those of you who do not get what I was asking, let me clarify. I have no issue buying a camera or any technology that was introduced and being sold in current year. I understand that technology is ever evolving and that there will always be newer models.

My concern as stated in my original post is that the current model of the cameras I was considering (G3X and FZ1000) are almost 2 years old and since no product is perfect, they have some limitations. If the cameras were 2017 models, I would never have asked the question. Buy a 2017 model in 2017...no problem. Buy a 2015 model in 2017...hence my questions.
For those who responded appropriately to my questi... (show quote)

In your original post, you never mentioned which cameras you were considering buying, other than that they were 2015 models. I guess I tried to answer your question/post on the information you cared to share with us. Oops...

I always take magazines to my doctors office when I have an appointment. I either take the front page off, or at least the address block off before I leave it. I don't want someone transferring my subscription with the info in the address block.

Have you tried setting your focus point on the stick in the middle of the water? I'm thinking at f32 and focusing on the stick, your depth of field would encompass both the rocks in the foreground and the hill. It looks like you are solidly focused on the foreground rocks, and just on the edge at the hill.

Maybe there is something weird with WMU and the D5600. Works as advertised on my D5500.

I have the D5500.

You can not transfer files to your desktop/laptop computer using the WiFi feature

I rarely use the wifi feature to transfer to my smart devices, except when using the WMU app from Nikon while taking pictures using wifi.

My biggest use for the wifi feature is using the WMU app on my ipad to take pictures, as a remote control for the camera. It is a neat feature in that you can use the iphone or ipad to view how you are composing the picture, unlike an IR remote that you hope you aren't cutting someone out of the picture as everyone moves around.

The WiFi does use a lot of the battery when turned on.

When taking pictures using the WMU app on your iphone or ipad, you can immediately upload to FaceBook, along with a couple other websites (can't remember off hand which ones, as I hardly even use the FaceBook upload option).

The day you buy a new camera, it's already an old version. I used to do computer consulting for businesses, and the purchaser always had the same concern, and I always had the same answer. When a tech product hits the shelves, there are at least three generations of that product in development. Innovation drives the tech industry, probably more so than any other industry. You can wait forever for the latest and greatest, but you will be depriving yourself of the experience of learning and using equipment today.

I have a Nikon D5500, that I bought just before Christmas. The D5600 is now out, should I have waited? No, I enjoy photography and post processing. What would my thrill have been reading tech reviews to have the newest, flashiest, and with my experience level, totally under utilized camera I could buy?

Find a camera with the features you like, in the price range you can afford, and don't worry about what's coming out next week, next year, or in the next decade.

I hope to see you posting photos soon!

I'd recommend not buying an IR remote for the D500... 😁

This is for Photoshop but the technique should work for any software that has layers.

I want to try something similar to that with a golfer swinging. I am assuming that my sequence of pictures can just be overlaid on the original with my Adobe Elements, and then use the Opacity setting on each layer. I'm sure it'll be a little harder than that, but that's how I'm 'thinking' it should work.

I have an app on my iphone called GOISSWATCH which if I remember correctly was free (with ads). You can speed up the rotation of the orbits with a slider on the right side. It shows the orbit above your location, and a red circle showing its visibility range. Also, gives the speed and altitude.

Being totally new to photography, have you thought of taking any beginner classes, possibly at a community college? If so, maybe you would want to talk to an instructor to see what would be a good camera that you can grow with, for at least a few years. A sales person may be able to get you started, but how much of his advise is going to be tainted by his commission? Not saying it's bad to take advise from a salesperson, but they quite often have a tendency to oversell you a product. There are a lot of good cameras out there, and your budget, if buying new, will get you in on the ground floor (That's where I am dwelling). Nikon for instance has a two lens kit (D5500) for $599.00. This is the camera I have. It seemed to fit my hands a little better, and for me the menus were a bit more intuitive (Though I still get lost looking for certain menu items), than the T6i Canon.

As Longshadow said, go to the store, and see how they feel in your hands. See how hard or easy it is to change settings while in your hands.

Oh, and by the way, welcome to UHH, from a fellow Michigander (Lansing area)!

I would look into upgrading the RAM in your computer. I use a Toshiba laptop PC (Windows 10), with very close to what your system is configured as. I have 8GB of RAM, and for the most part runs pretty smoothly with Adobe Elements 15. I'm not sure if the MAC has separate video memory, or if it shares the main RAM like my Toshiba does. After a few hours of editing, my system seems to slow down som, as it appears the editing history starts to grab more memory. In Elements, you can select the amount of RAM to allow for Elements to use. Mine is currently set at around 6gb. Just something to think about, and sure that others can elaborate more on how much RAM you should be looking at with a MAC, 4gb seems low to me.

I am taking a trip to South Africa in October and have considered buying a new camera. Since I have Canon 20mm, 28-135mm and the 100-400mm IS lens, I was looking at the 70D for the touch screen and WiFi. I will not be taking my computer with me and the WiFi is intriguing so I can post to my Facebook Page. The 100-400 is not a perfect lens, as I find it soft at 400, although acceptable. Since I cannot afford a really pricey setup, I am now starting to think that I should just stick with my 40D and present lenses. I wanted to go with the 75-300mm, but reviews are not great. The only advantage is the lightness of the lens. The 100-400 is bulky and heavy. I have looked at bundles, but they usually contain the 75-300mm. I am really just thinking out loud.

I have the D5500 with built in WiFi, and at least with my series of Nikon, if I want to send anything from the camera to Facebook, I have to filter it through my iPhone, or iPad. Would be nice to skip the mobile devices, but not how it works today anyway...

Nice shot! Those little buggers love to pose. No sudden moves and you can get some real cool pics.

And if you scare them, they aren't real bright, they'll usually pop up in the same spot within ten minutes....
