OM does not specify that their TC will eotk on the 100-400 mZuiko; I think that I saw sonewhere, either on the web or UHH, that the combo does work. Can any UHHer(s) verify this?

"I've used a WD My Passport Wireless Pro on several occasions."
I checked- B+H no longer carry them, WD no longer has them on their website for sale, they do have a description of them but also say their product support will end 12-31-24. Amazon shows them but no pricing.
This is a great idea, how hard can it be to make such an item? It would save so much weight and space and not require an additional HD or computer. Can't find a comparable product.

they now have SSD versions of this, but are fairly expensive; you can find old and new on eBay - I bought one there

Again, I cannot emphasize what a terrific resource UHH is for people looking for new places to go photograph.
Somebody today posted about the Goldfield AZ Blessing of the Horses; too late for this year, but it is on my calendar in December to plan for Jan 2024.

There has been no end ( the good news and the bad news ) for viable subjects, suggestions, and opportunities. I, again, thank everyone profusely who has provided ( to all of us, and to me specifically, sometimes ) location information, weather info, equipment info.

Headed for the Whooping Crane Festival in TX at end of Feb, something I didn't know about until a month ago when someone talked about it in UHH,

Can anyone recommend a portable backup and editing device that I can use on a photography trip to Icleand in March? I found the GNARBIX on B&H where reviews were good. My small laptop I used last in 2019 is a windows 7 device that was slow than and obsolete now. My goal.is to backup and view pictures addi.g as little weight to the camera bag as possible. I plan to have 6 SD cards with me for the 8 day trip to Iceland. Want to protect my experience!. The group has been very helpful in preparing me for my trip. Thanks in advance for any input.

my mistake: i misread your request - thought you meant a battery backup unit; what I suggested still applies, though

tons of choices on Amazon; I would suggest getting one that has multiple connection cores; they often store in or around the unit - makes life easier

Atlantic Puffin in for a landing on Machias Seal Island about ten miles off the coast of Cutler Maine. averaging about 8" tall they spend the majority of their life on the ocean near Iceland and come here once a year to breed.

My understanding is that they migrate up to Bar Harbor in June; I am planning at least a one week trip to shoot the puffins, nad head down the coast. Was this guy a straggler ?

An M4/3 camera and long lens lets me have a lot more wildlife photography and videography"fun" than bigger gear. It was cheaper, lighter and can fit in my small RV. If I see a target, I can pull over roll down the window, brace my elbow and get a shot at up to a 800 mm equivalent field of view.

Reality dictates that a lot of wildlife tracking in my age group is done via vehicle with limited hiking. I'm no longer intrigued by trekking into the wilderness looking for bears or wolves. I'll try to shoot them from a Yellowstone road pullout!

If I had invested in a full frame and 600 hundred or 800 mm lens, that would not be possible and I would miss the shot.

Your response is hilarious! It could have been I who had written it. I had a D500/200-500 combo; now have a Sony FF & a Sony APS-C with a 100-400 ( 1/2 the weight of the Nikon setup ). I also have an MFT setup ( G95 & GX85 with an OM 100-400 & TC (even lighter, you can see the direction I am heading ). B4 I ditch the Sony setup, I need to make sure the results are ok. I sm pretty sure they will be.

If it were me, I would buy the G9 because it will work better with the lens you have because of the "dual stabilization". Then try it! If you buy from a reputable place, they will have a return satisfaction guarantee.

If the OM-1 is better in specs, I'm not sure it will be significantly better in real life work.

What is it that is supposed to make the OM-1 better?

I have been on workshops where the leader was using OM-1s. Pro Capture feature is extremely worthwhile

What is it about the OM-1 that makes a difference over the G9? What lens do you have?

Don't have either; i have a G95 and GX85, Pant 100-400, mZuiko 13-200, etc. trying to figure out if I can save money & buy a G9 in-stead of an OM-1 to do bif; I believe I know what I have to do (OM-1 ), but.....

I have a Lumix GX8 with the Lumix 100-400. I added an Olympus EE-1 Dot Sight to improve "lock on" aiming.

I think manual focusing on something at the approximate distance I expect the birds works better than expecting autofocus to work. I do have to use high shutter speed and high ISOs for birds.

My camera and lens are better suited for wildlife on the ground than birds in flight, but I've made it work and look forward to trying more often.

I have a G95; trying to decide whether i can save money and accomplish good results with a G9, or if I need to pony up for the OM-1; I pretty much know the answer bur...

I shot with a G9 and loved a lot about that camera but switched to Olympus because the Lumix AF was too slow for BIF. The E-M1X was a big improvement and the OM-1 is better still. If the OM-1 is more than you want to spend then you might look at the EM1 Mk III. Itโ€™s a very capable camera but the OM-1 is a cut above, focus speed, frame rate, ISO. Better in every way.

Thank you
