Does anyone have experience with this shooting birds in flight? Satisfactory features, results, etc? Trying not to spend $2,000 on an OM-1, but....
I shot with a G9 and loved a lot about that camera but switched to Olympus because the Lumix AF was too slow for BIF. The E-M1X was a big improvement and the OM-1 is better still. If the OM-1 is more than you want to spend then you might look at the EM1 Mk III. It’s a very capable camera but the OM-1 is a cut above, focus speed, frame rate, ISO. Better in every way.
Em5. Has pro-shot.
I use em 10, with 100-300 lumix lens.
I have a Lumix GX8 with the Lumix 100-400. I added an Olympus EE-1 Dot Sight to improve "lock on" aiming.
I think manual focusing on something at the approximate distance I expect the birds works better than expecting autofocus to work. I do have to use high shutter speed and high ISOs for birds.
My camera and lens are better suited for wildlife on the ground than birds in flight, but I've made it work and look forward to trying more often.

I have a G95; trying to decide whether i can save money and accomplish good results with a G9, or if I need to pony up for the OM-1; I pretty much know the answer bur...

What is it about the OM-1 that makes a difference over the G9? What lens do you have?

Don't have either; i have a G95 and GX85, Pant 100-400, mZuiko 13-200, etc. trying to figure out if I can save money & buy a G9 in-stead of an OM-1 to do bif; I believe I know what I have to do (OM-1 ), but.....

If it were me, I would buy the G9 because it will work better with the lens you have because of the "dual stabilization". Then try it! If you buy from a reputable place, they will have a return satisfaction guarantee.
If the OM-1 is better in specs, I'm not sure it will be significantly better in real life work.
What is it that is supposed to make the OM-1 better?

I use a G9 and an Omd EM1mk2. Those are supposedly two cameras on the same tier, head to head competitors.
Even tho I dont do bifs or high school gyms, understandably things that take AF to its limits, I can sense that the AF is usually faster in the OMD.
OTOH theres something about the AF in the G9 that is more reassuring that its absolutely dead on. Theres good reason for that. The OMD is phase detection, the fastest choice in todays tech. High end Lumixs use contrast detection which is not historically a fast system but Lumix has a special very decisive version of contrast detection thaz really fast, even tho the OMD seems a bit faster.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Older contrast dedection systems are seeking focus (max contrast) during the lens motion . The new Lumix system is NOT seeking. Its "95% sure" where focus will be even before the lens moves and then it perfects that remaining 5% as its coming to a stop. Its really super fast but the OMD seems super-duper fast (but is less reassuring).
If I could only have EITHER the Lumix or the OMD I know Id keep the Lumix. (But I dont give a ratzazz about bifs, or hoops in dark dingy gyms.)
I have been on workshops where the leader was using OM-1s. Pro Capture feature is extremely worthwhile
Don't know what "Pro Capture" is, but sounds like you need to get it! Go for it!
But its a rather common feature, IOW not a decision decider.
I had a G9 and switched to the Olympus E-M1X mainly for focus speed and tracking. The E-M1X was head and shoulders over the G9 for wildlife. I’ve since upgraded to the OM-1 and it’s a phenomenal camera. The AF is faster and more accurate and it will track at faster frame rates. It also has great ergonomics and is a joy to shoot.
It’s only becoming a common feature. I think only a couple of Canons have it and one Nikon and its use is limited. Olympus has had it for years and it’s more flexible.
