That's a nice combo you got. Looking forward to some images from your trip.

I've improved my birds in flight and other action shots by having IS on if I'm not zoomed in too far, otherwise it actually slows down the autofocus for continuous action. If I am zoomed in, hand held or on a monopod for relatively stationary subjects, IS has definitely gotten me more sharper shots. Experiment and see for yourself. You may have more than one IS setting on your lens, read the manual and make sure you are using the appropriate one. I know some Canon lenses have an IS setting designed for when you are on a tripod as well as settings for more unstable conditions. Good luck.

The eclipse was much harder to focus on than a regular bright full moon. I would think you could have just set your lens focusing ring to infinity and that would have been fine.

Thanks for all of your help. Just got off the phone with Cannon about the SX50, new is $429 and a refurb. is $386. Something don't seem right as last week their refurd. unit was $149.

Those deals come and go. Be patient, another batch will be on sale soon. They were around $229 after the SX-60 came out and they have steadily gone down when they have sales since then. I've bought used lenses from KEH and I believe they also carry refurbs from the factory. Check them out at www.keh.com. Many others here speak highly of them.

What I'm looking for is a
cannon sx50. both B&H and Adorama are closed till Oct 7 for the holidays

I got a refurbed one from the factory for $179. I can't tell the difference between it and new. Great backup camera to my DSLR. Check out refurbs at http://www.canon.com.

Also B&H, KEH, Precision and Amazon if you want equipment that is not grey market. Buyer beware elsewhere. Check serial numbers with the manufacturer if you go the Ebay, Craigslist or other route before you buy to make sure they'll back it. I buy used lenses and other stuff from the other sources, but you need to be more careful. Good luck.

One more thing. I do a lot of continuous shooting and recently upgraded the card in Slot 1 to a Sandisk Extreme Pro 64GB 95MB/s card for about $50 from Amazon. I don't buffer at all anymore on the highest quality JPG setting. It takes over 100 shots to even begin to slow down. I use a slower card as overflow in Slot 2, but am thinking of getting a second high speed card so I can use Slot 2 as a backup. With a slower card in Slot 2 set as a backup, the camera has to slow down to the slower card's speed. Good luck.

Here in Texas, if I know I'm shooting during a humid morning the next day, the evening before I put my entire camera bag/backpack in my garage to acclimate. I have a Ziploc bag full of silica gel in the bag to hold down moisture and have poked little holes in the bag so the air in my backpack can get to the gel packs. When they turn brown, it means they are wet, so I just gently warm them in the oven and they turn white, ready to go again. Hope some of this helps...

Computer guy here. Try formatting it in the camera again. Did you pull the card while the camera was on? I've done that bad move before and formatting it in the camera gave it new life. That second slot is good if you're doing a mirror image. In my D7200, I just got a real high speed card for continuous shooting and the slower card in Slot 2 slows things down, so I now have mine set to use Slot 2 as overflow. I'm going real fast now, but I don't have a safety net anymore. Good luck. If you need a new card, I just got a 95MB/s Sandisk Extreme Pro 64GB from Amazon for about $50. It rocks! My camera almost never buffers now during continuous shooting. Highly recommended.

Welcome aboard! I started to get serious when I got my first Nikon superzoom, a P90 and have progressed up the ladder through those to a P500, a Canon SX-50 and then onto DSLRs with a D5200 and now a D7200, so I share your love of these cameras. You'll find lots of friendly help here and be sure to pay it forward when you can. Glad you're here!

Good one. Wonder where they might go to get "developed"?
