Hi Colin, I think I like ACR better. Either one is great to me. I have been amazed at some of the things I can do with ACR as a filter into Photoshop. I am still learning but having fun. I wish I could make this transition soon but it will take me awhile. Unless I get a huge raise in social security that is!!! Keep posting guys, I love it.

A few days ago I visited Cambridge and found him sitting on a bench near to where he normally busks. I sat down, chatted to him, and asked if he would be playing later. He told me that he probably would be playing in about half an hours time, he also said that he wasn't feeling too great, he was very tired. I left him saying I would be back to get some more pictures. When I returned he was nowhere to be found, I checked all of his usual haunts to no avail. I hope he is okay.

Graham your pics have a wonderful contrast to them. Looking at the face of the spoon player is great.

If I shoot with no filter on the front of the lens it comes out muddy looking with muted, off-colors. Kinda like a White Balance gone horribly wrong. Using the R72 or 47B gets my images to a point where they just need a little tweaking in Elements.

I strongly recommend visiting NE TN as it is smokin' gorgeous!

Eric

Ok thanks for the info. Are these filters dense like an 8 stop ND filter or are they more like a polarizer??

I have an old Canon 300D that I converted at Kolarvision that I use. I do not use filters at this time. I edit in Photoshop with a Kolarvision conversion filter. The colors that I add are either in Topaz or Smart Photo Editor.

Years ago I thought that Vegas had limited photo opportunities as my trips there had been for sales conferences etc. I always thought there must be something else there. Since I retired I have gone a number of times and traveled extensively around there and found a multitude of photo opportunities. You have some tremendously unique ones with the various Canyonlands, Death Valley and desert scenery. I have not been back since I got the infrared bug, so can't tell how it would turn out. Someday I'll make it back again.

I agree that the photo ops around here are tremendous. At minimum I plane a trip every two weeks to get out of the house and play with my toys. There is a certain spot by Lake Mead that I have tried to photograph many times and I cannot get what I want yet I still go back.

There are many photo ops in the surrounding as well. Death Valley is two hours away. Zion and Bryce are a little more than two hours away. Since it is nature that I love to photograph these are my targets.

Here is a pic of Death Valley that I took in the spring.

Eric, I am almost 70 so my hiking is very short! LOL. I envision images like your #1/2 or #5/6. You are very fortunate to live in Tn. I loved the few times I have spent there. I currently have a Facebook friend (a girl I knew in high school) that lives there.

If you have an IR only sensor, doesn't that negate the need for filters?

Whenever I see these images I become more anxious to start doing it myself! I am looking forward to carrying two camera bodies. Great shots!

Thank you so much! It took me two years to crack the code of B&W in Photoshop. There is nothing that makes me happier than to think someone got something of value out of the course. Thank you for your support!

Well I meant every word. I had an ancient version of PS soI have signed up for PS CC. This is my second month. I have made a resolution with myself to learn something new everyday in PS. I have learned so much the past two months and I am really enjoying myself. I have you to thank for some of that Russ. Thank you.

My boys and I have Directv. We have the baseball package every year to watch the Tigers and the hockey package to watch the Red Wings. My network access is handled via Verizon. I use a cell modem on my laptop. I can access the internet anywhere I have a signal.

BTW, we can access Directv from our motor home when we are out and about.

Thanks for sharing. Love all your B&W work. You inspire me to do better. I hope I have enough years to get there.

I agree Andy. Seeing Russ Elkins's portraits has given me the desire to do better. I have to say it has worked. I like my work much more since I have seen Russ's work and watched his videos on his website. Even the ones for purchase are priced such that and old Social Security guy can afford them. They are so great even though they are about portraits the fundamentals he teaches can be used in anything you may want to photograph.

I use Hahnemuhle Fine Art Protective Spray. It is supposed to be used for inkjet prints. It says that it renders prints highly water resistant, scratch resistant and enhances U.V. resistance. I have only used it on 10 or so prints and these are less than a year old so I cannot say how good it is. I can say that the prints I have used it on have not shown any signs of degradation. BUT, they are less than a year old.
