Beautiful photos! BUT.... if it is your favorite lighthouse you need to learn its name! A "head" is a rocky promontory jutting out into the ocean. Many Maine lighthouses (and I am sure many around the world) are located on rocky "heads". Far up the coast on the border with Canada there is the beautifully striped West Quoddy Head Lighthouse - and across the bridge on the far end of Campobello Island (New Brunswick Canada - you need a passport!) is the equally stunning red and white "East Quoddy Head Lighthouse" (Quoddy refers to the Passamaquoddy Bay).

So.... in South Portland, sitting atop the Portland Head, you have the Portland Head Lighthouse. It is not a headlight. A headlight is found on a car. Not to be confused with a headlamp, which can be found on a miner. Or camper. Or handyman!

The image needs more sharpness, clarity, and color saturation. All easily done with Photoshop Elements or other relatively simple (and inexpensive) programs. The yellow in the upper right make me think that someone's finger got in front of the lens. There are too many distractions to make this a photograph of the bridge. It blends into the background and the trees on the right are a strong element. I agree with the comment that had you walked around the left nearer to the base of the bridge and caught it at an angle you might have been able to emphasize it more. From your angle it would be challenging to really emphasize it. Maybe using a telephoto and just getting part of the bridge would have been more interesting.

Well - I have been playing with my new iPhone 14 Pro. Camera-wise, I am not convinced yet that it is a lot better than my iPhone 11 Pro. I headed to the beach before sunrise today to see what I could do with it under challenging conditions.

( For a few photos of the same spot before sunrise with the iPhone 11 Pro, see: http//www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-750384-1.html )

The iPhone 14 Pro automatically takes a photo in HDR when needed. The close-ups of the shells were taken just about as the sun was coming up, so although I would not want to try to enlarge them for the wall, I think they are decent photographs given the situation.

Before sunrise. 1x view

Before sunrise - 0.5x wide angle view. With the wide angle in dim light there is quite a large vignette and a lot of noise.

My customary spot for a walk is the beach at Patrick Air Force (Space Force) Base. There are rarely more than half a dozen people in the two-mile round trip walk that I take, especially if at sunrise. I coordinate my walks with low tide, so there is a flat firm sand to walk on - otherwise in the past that would mean walking in the soft sand above the high tide line. Unfortunately there no longer is a high tide line. The sand has been washed out right up to the dune, which has been undermined into a six-foot drop-off. The high tide comes right up to the base. This may spell disaster for sea turtle nesting over the next few years. Not sure how many nests were washed away this week - many have hatched already, but not all. This area is one of the most important nesting grounds for four species of sea turtles. Most have nested well up into the soft sand above the mean high tide line - some managed to pull themselves to the higher area of the dune - where there is now a six-foot drop.

Taken with an iPhone 14 Pro. Most of these images were taken before sunrise.

You can see by the seaweed that the high tide now comes to the base of the steep edge of the dune.

This nest which was up on the top of the dune has washed out - looking at the eggs up close I think they had already hatched.

There is a nest behind the sign. The babies are going to have quite a surprise when they climb up out of the sand and head for the water.

Given that the ocean is east of Boston, unless you want to get offshore, your best bet would be looking west over the Charles River from the area around the Science Museum or the Longfellow Bridge. There are some places up on the North Shore that look back towards Boston over the water. I think there is an App called something like "Photographer's Ephemeris" that lets you map out places to be to see the sunset in what direction, etc. Looks like it would probably take a but to learn to use it.

And so many "free trial" offers require a credit card and then automatically charge $29.95 per month - or whatever. That is when the virtual credit card comes in handy - good for one time only. Privacy.com offers this service, and I have seen my bank and some credit cards offer this as well.
