Great pix- and I see you got Nike among them - that is what the Nike logo is based on. We were there late August about three years ago - got to 42 Celsius that day!!! Wish I had more time there. I like your pix very much

I have now gone totally to RAW with my DSLR. After shooting JPG's for about a year I switched to RAW + JPG and when looking at the the difference is really noticeable so now it is RAW only, unless I just want throwaway pics.

I started at about age 12 with a box brownie. Then bought an Olympus Pen F half frame SLR - wonderful little camera. Progressed to a Pentax ES then to a Canon 500G. Now have a Canon 550D (not sure of the US designation). Have also had a variety of rangefinders and P & S ending with a little Canon Ixus 60 which has been round the world 3 times with me and still in use.
Have I made much money - nope. Did a few weddings, groups and on one day drove 540 miles and photographed 575 individual people! Great fun.
BTW, I am now just on 69.
Anyway, best of luck to you and your ambitions

Just go back hence the late reply. Don't miss Milford Sound - It's a reasonably long drive in and back out same road - all paved now but some twist and narrow bits.
Other places - if you can go through the MacKenxie country and stop off at Twizel and visit the Church of the Good Shepherd. Is a statue there to MacKenzie (a presumes sheep rustler) and his dog, who the story goes, was also hung.
Going right down south you could drive from Invercargill through the Catlins. Southernmost part of NZ mainland - and visit Cathedral Cave while you are there if the tide is right.
On the way up the East Coast in Dunedin visit Larnach Castle and Olveston if you have time. A little further up the coast is Moeraki - go and look at the sperical boulders.
Meant to say, while you are on the West Coast make sure you stop at Puekaiki and see the Pancake rock formation.
We were through MacKenzie country,Milford and Catlins last March and it was perfect. Milford in the rain and you can see hundreds of waterfalls from the mountains on the the way there.
I used to live in the South Island in Southland and then Dunedin and have been alll through those places several times and they never cease to amaze me.
Have a great trip and post some pics if you can!

I have one of the new 1.8 50mm Canon lenses and I am very satisfied with it. Quite a nice length for portraits too when on a C sensor camera.

Why not get one of those underwater camera bags? They seal tighly enough for snorkeling etc and are designed for beach use. Are a bit like a ziplock but much tougher, water proof and (usually) have a glass port for the lens to shoot through. They are not a full diving case but should be more than adequate.

Another progamme you could use would be IrfanView. - It's free. I have used it for years for viewing and it has a very quick and easy way to resize (pixels and inches) as well as setting dpi for each image. Cheers
