This looks more science fiction than science fact! This is the basis for nightmares. Well done. I love the color refractions of the various eye facets.

Also dug the old bracket out to see how it feels . . .
This model is NO longer manufactured! It is quite a find. I use the same L-grip with built-in ball joint. Most macro-photographers have to buy a plain L-grip and mount a separate ball head. I hold the camera with my left hand, and operate camera with my right hand. You can re-assemble the grip for either hand.

Thanks for the info. On my crop frame camera the lens is ~90mm. If I go to 1/3 crop would be ~ 120mm. I haven't tried that yet. Shooting stinging insects, bees and such at this time of the season the additional stand off would provide a more warm, fuzzy feeling. Suggestions on the 1/3 crop idea or other comments gratefully appreciated.
REGARDLESS of the size of a camera format, your lens is ALWAYS 60mm. The different size sensors just record different fields of view, but the magnification and the Working Distance remain the same. Your lens on my full frame camera will result in the same magnification at the same Working Distance. The difference is that my larger sensor records a wider field of view.

90mm to 105mm is considered the standard focal lengths for field macro-photography. Longer focal lengths do give a bit more Working Distance, which is helpful with skittish insects. Shorter focal length lenses are best used in studio on a fixed stand.

1:1 mag on a Nikon or Sony sensor will record nearly 24-mm wide

I'm beginning to find out getting a camera and lens is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to macro photography.
For hand-held macro-photography, you are 80% there! A decent speedlight is needed, and a comfortable bracket is nice to have.

Table-top macro is a different story: you can get all kinds of carried-away building camera support, set-up bases, lighting brackets, subject platforms, etc.

. . . I shoot a D7200 and a Micro Nikkor 60, f2.8. What is your opinion, will that meet your qualifications for micro equipment.
This combination is quite capable of capturing 1:1 magnification (true macro). To achieve this, switch your lens to Manual focus, and turn your lens focusing ring to LONGEST physical length. In the small window on top of your lens, you should see 1:1 indicator. This is the ONLY focusing distance to capture true macro. Working Distance (lens front element to subject) will be about 4-inches. This is why most field macro-photographers use lenses right around 100-mm, which yield about 6-inch WD.

OP - Nice close-up. Please remember to always post at least one accompanying 1:1 true macro photo in this section.

This is a multi-inch long millipede, so this is a close-up, NOT a macro-photograph.
Which camera & lens did you use? (To see if you actually have equipment capable of macro)
