Yeah, but what about a price? No one had enough guts to give a straight answer. I too am curious about what another photographer would charge. Just give a few numbers.
WOW! That solves the depth of field problem, huh?! It takes a little playing around with. At first it is just a blurry picture. But as you select different areas, you can zoom in. The skyscrapers in the distance are brought into sharp focus. Select the blurred raindrops and they pop into focus. I think it is amazing. But you can't hang it on the wall, so it more or less a novelty item with limited use.
I did a search on Andreas Gursky. Here is one of his better works as an attachment.
He evidently is the contemporary Ansel Adams of Germany. Once you are famous on that level, people will buy your work as an investment. Also, the Rhine is to Germany as the Mississippi is to the US. You know how local scenes will sell.
Personally, I don't like the Rhine photo either.
Ah I love mist! I want to do my own series but you can't find mist when you want it! So I took some liberties with your photo for fun(everybody else does it, and you asked for constructive criticism). I am an Artist by profession meaning I studied at an art college and took photography there too. Here is my version, I took the advice above and cropped, did some tonal adjustment to make the foreground tree an 'anchor' that lets the eye wander into the misty distance. I see it almost as a painting...
Thanks! That is a good summary to make some sense out the alphabet soup! I know now that I am a DOF nut too!
I have another question, how about using the telephoto lens(I mean the telephoto part of my zoom lens) as a macro lens? I think I have used it to avoid having to get down on the ground for flower closeups. Also, I have a mirror lens which I inherited and thought it was a macro lens and tried using it as such, but I guess there are drawbacks to using them this way?
I too am interested in Nikonian 72's equipment. Thanks, N72, for being open, but I am not as knowledgeable about the techinical designations. Also the abbreviations, is there a photographer's glossary somewhere, or could you explain VR, DOF, etc. We need a "Macro for Dummies" explanation...
One vote for UHH. It's a no-brainer. UH may be logical but just sounds stupid! UHH sounds like an official organization. Like the man who started profiling for the FBI called it the BS Unit for Behavior Science or some such logical abbreviation. They had to change it finally, profiling was a new thing, a lot of people thought it was a bunch of malarky. Of course, people started saying BS stood for Bull S*#t. UH is the sound you make when someone hits you and you are senseless for a moment. UH sounds like a senseless organization, it just doesn't sound serious.
