Considering getting the Pluto trigger system for my camera (Nikon D500 and D5500) . . . I was wondering if any UHH'rs have got this trigger?, How is it working?, Pro's/Con's?, Comments/Experience? Recommend, Y or N? Etc. . . . Thanks in advance for your comments/input . . .

My first choice would be to go with a camera upgrade . . . While the D5600 is a nice camera . . . It is far out classed by the 7000 series cameras. I personally saved my money and upgraded from my D5500 to a D500 . . . I kept my D5500 as a backup/second camera, but would like to have a D7200 or 7500 instead. Upgrade the camera first, then once you've got it all figured out, you can look as lens upgrades if required. . . .

I have both the Tamron 18-270 and the Tamron 18-400. In my opinion . . . Both are excellent . . .

I've been on this site now for several months and really have gained a lot of knowledge and ideas from it. I haven't posted any photos because I'm not sure how to do it . . . Is there a tutorial somewhere on here that tells you how to upload pictures? . . . Thanks . . .

Look at some of the Tamron zoom lenses. They can be had for close to your price range. I've been quite pleased with my Tamron 18-270 and my Tamron 18-400 . . . . . I think they also have a pretty good 70-300 . . .

Well, it depends on how much you have to spend . . . I think a D7200 or the new D7500 with a mid to long zoom lense would be perfect. The 7200/7500 feels more substantial than the 3000 or 5000 cameras which feel a little small to me. recommend the Tamron 18-270 as a reasonably priced zoom which gives you lots of capability for wide to telephoto shots. If money is no object, then the D500 is one of the best cameras existent for action . . . I personally would still go with a wide to telephoto zoom lens like the Tamron 18-270 or 18-400 . . .

I currently use a Tamron 18-270 as my walk around lens, and I've thought about the 18-400, too since it came out. Why did you replace your 18-270 with the 18-400? Was it just the additional 130mm zoom range, or are there other advantages of the 18-400 over the 18-270 that made the upgrade compelling?

Yes, I wanted a little more range for birds, ducks, moose, etc. that I see around the neighborhood . . . Also, it's about 4 years newer, so the technology has improved . . . It received really good reviews . . . And, It will be a good all-in-one travel lens . . . I've used it a couple of weeks now and am pleased with it . . .

I also have the Tamron 150-600 G2 and recently purchased the Tamron 18-400 as my walk around lens to replace my Tamron 18-270. The 150-600 is just too big and heavy to carry. It is best used for planned shoots and with a tripod. I'm satisfied with the 18-400 and think it's at least as good as the 18-270. The 18-270 used to stay on my camera 95% of the time and now I suspect the 18-400 will be on my camera most of the time . . .

I like my MeFoto travel tripod . . . It is very compact, utilizes a arca type ball head, and one leg can be removed along with the center column to make a monopod . . .

For comfort, I like the padded neoprene straps straps. Also quick release attachments on the camera end are handy when putting the camera on a tripod or in your bag. I've a D3300, D5500, and a high end D500 . . . They all came with the cheap lame strap from Nikon. . . .

Taking a slightly different tack here. Head out to your local camera store if you have one, if not Best Buy is reasonable stand in. Of course either is going to depend on the quality and knowledge of their salespeople. Explain what your desire is and let them make some suggestions. Handle all those cameras, getting a feel for them and exploring their capabilities. Make notes and then go home and do a lot of research on what you saw, go online and look at their user manuals, with todays DSLR's they are often a couple to several hundred pages. Hopefully then if you not totally confused or frightened off you can make a reasonable and educated choice that you'll be satisfied with. Happy hunting.

P.S. I used a similar tack when I got into SLR photography 30 or so years ago, it worked for me. Though it was a bit more laborious.

I agree . . . A lot depends on just how the camera feels in your hands, and the controls on the camera. I've always bought from my local camera store: the prices are comparable with online, you can pick the brain of the sales person, often they'll let you put different lenses on it to evaluate, you can also look at any accessories you might need, and you can buy it and take it home. Holding it, looking thru the viewfinder, and testing the functions are important to me.

The: D5 . . . D500 . . . and D5500 . . . ALL show the same temperature range in their specs (32-104 f). You just have to use some extra caution and common sense when using cameras in temperature extremes . . .

Well . . . A couple of months ago I upgraded from my D5500 to a D500. I kept my D5500, thinking it could be a backup . . . So a couple days ago I got it out and put a lens on it. I was so disappointed trying to use it . . . The D500 has got me so spoiled, that the slow focusing, small viewfinder, and controls issues of the D5500 was hard to deal with. I'm not sure what to do with it. Some of my options are: 1) just keep it as a spare and use only if necessary . . . 2) put my 18-270 lens on it and use it as my in golf bag, under car seat, hunting/fishing, etc camera . . . 3) put my 11-16 lens or 40mm macro on it and set it up for just taking landscapes or macros . . . 4) try and sell it . . . What do you recommend? The D5500 is a really nice camera, but I just don't see myself having much use for it anymore . . .
