I am currently taking a black and white film class and considering setting up my own darkroom. I am looking for advice on how to dispose of used chemicals . I have had several people tell me you can't just pour them down the drain. Anyone have advice they would like to share.
Thanks

The quantity of chemicals from a home darkroom is insignificant to any large sewer system, pet waste is a much larger issue. Feel free to wash your used chemistry down the drain. I have dumped black and white, E3 and E6 as well as Cibachrome waste since the 1960s.

What I am trying to say is the camera doesn’t often choose the correct exposure in program mode. I almost always need to use exposure comp. Does that make sense?

I'd look at your metering modes and maybe try a reset to factory standards. I shoot mostly in P mode with center weighted metering, very seldom need to shoot full manual.

I have D50 and D90 which pretty much does the job for me. I am interested in macro and bird photography. What is better full frame or crop sensor? Secondly, if full frame, then should I go for D750 or D850.

D7200 or D7500.

So I am looking to buy a point and shoot camera for my girlfriend. She loves to shoot wide landscapes and
also enjoys taking indoor shots of old abandon buildings or just family in general. So I am looking for something that is possibly got a 1.4 or 1.8 aperture and can also if possible shoot JPEG and RAW images.
I would get her a DSLR but the weight of it would actual hurt her since a few years back she broke her neck.

She is doing really good so I am just wanting to get something for her and keep her encouraged to go out and enjoy life to the fullest and we both love photography so I thought this would be a great gift to start the year when it warms up. Also if possible a LCD that can tilt or rotate with a view finder as well. I have looked at a few but I get these reviews that well confuse me on what to do. Also one that takes crisp images I notice reading a few that they tend to be smooth around the frame. Any help would be very appreciated. Thank You.

Two I considered are these.

Lost all the files on my SD card I tried downloading some trial/free programs but nothing brought back the images I shot today, only older ones. One program was bringing up files dated from 1969, I couldnt see what they were but yikes, cant be mine. I am just sharing my frustration, I really dont think they are able to be saved at this point. I am going to try to recreate a few that I was excited about before I forget what I did. Enjoy your weekend!

You don't say what camera you are using but I would start everthing over, starting with new memory cards. If the camera takes two different kind of cards get at least one each and format both in camera. Do a full reset to factory specs on the camera, check the camera firmware is up to date, reformat both memory cards again, and test. It sounds like you have a corrupt SD card but I'd reset the camera firmware to eliminate the camera as the problem. I'd add another memory card if you have two slots in the camera as cheap insurance. Happy testing.

I'm in suburban Chicago. In the film days I used International Camera for repairs with no issues. They are still around, I'd try them.

Has anyone seen the new iPhone commercial touting their new "bokeh" feature? One mother scolds another for "bokehing" her child in the background. Problem is, Apple doesn't know what the word means, or that it's not a verb. They seem to think it means throwing the background out of focus, which some uninformed photographers also believe. Bokeh is actually the aesthetic quality of the out-of-focus background blur, usually as a characteristic of a specific lens, not the blurring itself. Now the general public will have the same misunderstanding.

yes,but ypu are confising the issue//include focal length and it comes out the same..that is why f stop was DEFINED!! the same f stop puts the same light n the film per unit area without regard to the focal lenght...

Correct. And the size of the aperture depends on the focal length of the lens. F2 on a 300 mm lens is 150mm while f2 on a 50mm is 25mm.

My five year old MacBook Pro hard drive just bit the dust. Wondering what I should go with next. My budget is in the $2000 (or less) range. I use the computer only for photos and photo editing because I have an iPad and an iPhone as well. I am a Grandma with 12,000 photos to play with. Just recently I subscribed to the Adobe Creative suite (jury still out on keeping it). Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Run away from Apple. Get a pc. Look at Dell or HP.

See, this is the part that is confusing to me. The lens with a 100mm opening at f/4 is 4 times wider opening than the other lens that has a 25mm opening at f/4. So why would the larger lens not be transmitting 4x as much light?

Nope, for all practical purposes, an f4 on a 300 is the same light value as f4 on a 50 mm lens.

I probably missed the initial discussions as to why the interest in mirrorless cameras, but I've been wondering: are they in some ways better than DSLRs? If so, how? Are they lighter? Cheaper? Do they use better lenses? I'd appreciate answers. Thanks.

I freelance for a local production house as cameraman, we shoot both stills and video with DSLRs as well as straight video cameras. I am very interested in the EVF on mirrorless cameras for video shoots. Also for the sheer enjoyment of the technology. 😎

I am in the need of replacing my printer, and when reading about the various Epson printers, find that this one might do the job. If any of you use this Epson p800 printer, could you take a moment and give some feedback of perhaps what you like about it and what you dislike about it? MANY THANKS!

(I looked up posts about printers and was unable to find anything recent.)

I had an Epson printer ten years or so ago. After the damage and mess of the printhead leaking, I will never buy another Epson printer. I love my Epson scanner but hate their printers. I currently use an HP Photosmart and a Brother printer.

Hi guys!
I have been reading your post for a while now, and I never participated in the discussions because of someone always came out whit my point, and he says much better than I can.
But today I am looking to discover if I am crazy and alone in my position.
But before going to the point I wish to apologize because English is not my first language, and at a time my thinking gets a bit confusing for a mother tongue, so please bear whit me and try to understand.
Now to the point, I did study photography at school and I graduated in artistic graphic design and photography, in a time when the film was the only way, and my first camera was a Pentax K1000 that I still own. After graduation a carried out a couple of photojournalistic jobs, and then life and injury set me on a different phat for almost 3 decades, where I sporadically used the camera. About 15 years ago I friend give me a kodak digital camera, I thin was a 5MP Easyshare that I never liked to use and passed to my sister.
Then a couple of years ago I decided to give digital a second chance and after some research, looking for a light and compact interchangeable lens camera to take everywhere, I got a used Olympus pen2, and after I found my control setting on the camera, I really liked the pictures and use that camera, but the EVF refresh was too slow, and so I decided to upgrade the camera and format, I feel that Olympus put too much of gadgets in their bodies, and ultimately you pay too much for a 4/3 sensor.
So I decided APS-C, and the decision was between Sony and Fuji, Fuji was pricey with better optics but offering lower resolution, much beefier raw file not supported by may software, and fewer features, the xt1 was a camera for still photography, while the Sony a hybrid, when the XT10 came out I told that is it, all was in place, felt good in the hand, light and compact to carry everywhere, but a problem was the flash support like in the XT1, then the XT1 was given full flash support (adding HSS) by firmware update, and because the XT10 uses same processor and sensor I assumed it was going to receive HSS as well (after all is only a step down), but did not happens, and I been told by Fuji it will not happen. In the main time, the XT2 for good it is does not have any major improvement that attracts me, is a hybrid, so the XT20, and do not talk about the XH1 and the XT3, are we making pictures or movies? did they improve the dynamic range? did they extend the low ISO (only marginally in the XT3)? more megapixel is better hi ISO? no, they have done nothing to improve the capability of the still photography, but look at the video... oh yeah! ... but a moment, 3 years and I do not know if the Hi-definition video recording work in my XT10, (sorry one time by accident filled my memory card and drain the battery while hiking to a waterfall. Now I fill as a faithful husband cheated by the much-loved wife, I choose a camera like a wife, for the long run, because we want the same thing in life, and we want to grow in the same direction, I choose fuji because was going in the direction of rediscovering the passion for photography, and now I am pushed to live with a teenager that goes all over the places just because is fun. So I told if I must change body next year I'll go FF and ten new body and new lenses... what fill my criteria of one job done right without bankrupt me? Sony sells TV so guess what the direction is? the other option I can find is Nikon df (which tick all my boxes) and came out in 2013, 8 years old, does make any sense to restart a new with a camera so old in a digital time?
It is only me that feel forced to keep up with a trend that does not give back what you look for, I do understand that a lot of professionals need to stay up to date and customer ask more and more, and want to pay less and less, so they need bodies that can make their life easier and can do all a paying customer may ask, and vlogger and blogger, they have their need, but what about still photographer that do not want go through pages of menus to change one parameter, and will never use 3/4 of the function offered, are we happy to pay for the development of systems we do not use?
I am crazy and alone on that?
Please if you fell You have something to say just say it as you fell, free to disagree and be rude if you like if I am wrong I need to snap out of that.
