Holy smoke! Went to buy a new android phone. Amazing.. one has a 200 mp rear camera. I can't imagine that. They had it wired up to the display so did not get to try it out. My last phone was 7 years old, the newer ones are amazing. Why would anyone want a 200 mp rear camera? What are your thoughts?

Yes, my Samsung S23 Ultra has up to 50 and 200mp cameras. Takes nice pix in normal mode with less. But I still far prefer using my FF DSLR.

Why not? My objective is to change .nef into good quality .jpg in another folder on my 1T C drive. Then reorganize sequence, and finally add to a Thumb Drive that will play a slide show. Do TV's recognize .nef? Don't know.

Space for my current pictures has 688 GB of space available with a backup drive. No worries mate.

Notice I said "before processing" in my reply. NEC or other RAW files need to be processed before being made in to JPG or TIF files or they look worse than right out of the camera JPG. Thus if you only want JPGs with no processing, shoot JPGs and don't bother with RAW / NEC at all.

👍👍👍 It simply comes down to common courtesy. If an OP poses a question, he/she/it has a responsibility to respond to submittals. Otherwise, IMHO, the ignoring OP is no better than a “topic troll.”

Exactly.

I got one of those calls from “Weendows” last night telling me that there was a problem with my computer. I told the guy that I didn’t have “Weendows”. I told him that I developed my own OS called Digitally Operated Open Reiteration System. I call it DOORS. I explained that it uses a special processor that I built called Wide Universal Design. I told him that I simply called it a WUD chip. I further explained that I could open several DOORS at once due to a graphic device called High Intensity Neutron Graphic Engine and that I have three of them installed. I told him that I refer to them as HINGES. They guy hung up on me!

How long when you post a question on the UHH before you check back for answer? I found so many UHH posted questions and never camera back with a response even if it's a F*** word. I much rather see that than a question and then I tried to answer the OP just never acknowledge. I think that is a greater insult than using bad words.
I never tell anyone to go ask Mr. Google and I am not Mr. Google.

Often minutes. I agree with you and also find OPs that disappear annoying.

What program do you use to batch convert .nef to .jpg. I don't have Adobe anymore.

Why do you want to convert Raw to JPG before processing your NECs. Seems pointless.

The greater question is "why"? If you are not processing in software that recognizes Nikon raw files, just shoot in jpg. Is this a good idea? No. Note, Nikon offers a free program.

Based on your title and not your comment (really need to know the "why"), you are trying to lessen HD space. If this is the real question, there are several solutions.

That is my thought too.

I recently purchased Ansel Adam's book, "The Negative" specifically to understand and learn to apply the zone system of exposure. I just reached the chapter on the Zone System and though I shoot digitally, I'm finding that this system is amazing and can definitely be an added bonus. I also recently purchased a top mint condition Hasselblad 500CM that I'm over the moon excited to start using; however, there are some things that I need to learn about film photography. I've become a student once again and it's truly exciting.

I have Ansel's books too, both the original series and the 1980s series. Do note, other authors have written new books specifically explaining how to use the Zone System for Digital Photography. Enjoy film and digital photography.

Here are reliability ratings based on owner reports to Consumer Reports. I just signed up for their online subscription, and I get several newsletters.

My wife and I have only once ever purchased a new car, and that was a 1989 Honda Accord DX purchased in October 1988. All the others have been used. Currently we have a used 2020 Subaru Forester Limited that was two years old when we purchased it with a "Previously Owned" warranty.

Does anyone buy third-party straps or you generally use the original that comes with the camera?

I think my only modification was adding a velcro pocket for a remote to a standard strap.

Is there something else people do with straps in terms of adding features/functions that I might be missing out on?

I use either the factory strap or fabric "hippy" straps. Some are many decades old. I don't hike so simple is fine.

Wondering what type of shutter the majority of photographers use: Mechanical or Electronic? and what Camera System.

I think I have at least one of each and a both. The shutter was not the reason for purchasing any of my cameras. Makes little difference to me.
