Typical of most threads here at UHH... ya just have to keep reiterating what it is that you want/don't want before it takes a downward spiral into the "cellar".

I'm in the process of finishing our basement, in which I'm creating a small studio space which will also double as a library when not in use.

I've considered the typical background stand system, but what I don't like about them is how much of a footprint the stands take up on the ground. I would also like to avoid permanently mounting anything to the walls/ceiling.

As an alternative I found these, which would have a very small footprint.

But they're somewhat pricy. That got me thinking...would a freestanding closet system work? My current paper rolls are only 42" wide and my wisest muslin is 6'. I have upto 8-10' to work with (plus an additional 10' for lights).
Closet system?

BAM!!! looks like the $45.oo item will be a good investment and do exactly what you are looking for!! Does not bolt to your brand new walls or ceiling, and can be stored away easily !!

Glad you figured out your issue.

Its useful to remember that the LR Import function has 4 basic options, one of which is selected at the top of the screen.
"Move" leaves you with one copy of the image in the location you designate in the right hand panel.
"Copy" leaves you with two copies of the image - one in the original location and one in the location you designate in the right hand panel.
"Copy as DNG" works the same as Copy, except the new version of the file is in DNG raw format.
"Add" simply tells the LR Catalog where your image is and "registers" it (another way of saying add) in the Catalog.

Hope the above helps.
Glad you figured out your issue. br br Its useful... (show quote)

I have LR 5.7.1 and when I plug in the reader and go to "import" photos , there is only the "copy" or "save as png" the "move" is greyed out.
now, if there was a photo on my hard drive and went to import it , it gives me the "move " function also.

crazy, just crazy!!!!!
thanks for input

Hi Redhogbill how are you doing?

Glad you answered your question. Seems like I have to re-answer that one now and then I forget where the buttons are. I agree LR is not a simple organizer.

When you say you want to "move them" from your card do you want them deleted from the card after the import? I think there is a check box for that but Danger Will Robinson! I do not recommend that! Sometimes imports fail (stuff happens) and a re-import is needed!

hello JD, hows life??

I agree, "move" probably not be a wise move, just incase there was a problem!! I usually down load everything then put the cards back into camera then format cards!

Good!! The important thing is that your not trying to wing it. It just helps to have some amount of instruction.

Always glad to help.

My first version of LR was #3. After I installed it, and got to looking around, I realized I needed to have something to help me understand all that it does. I bought the book, Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Classroom in a Book, and it was the best move I made. Started at page one and worked through the entire book. It took me a few days, but it covered every single function of LR and gave background info on what it was doing. I highly recommend it. Available at Amazon for certain, but probably other places too.

I actually have a few books on lightroom, I have a short attention span so getting thru the books is long!!
I finally got the class from Phil Steel, that has giving me the best insight,

There are options at the bottom of the import screen to allow you to order the images the way you want to see them.

Did you opt to have the files "moved", or simply "copied"? After the import, did you use Explorer or Finder to go to the destination to confirm the images are there/not there?

i did just figure it out!! I did have to click the on bottom of page "sort by" .. when I bring them in from my card it only lets me "copy" them would be nice to move them!
yes they are going to the file I set up,

thank you for help!!!!

lightroom has been harder to learn than photoshop!!!!

when I take the card out of my camera and plug into the card reader, which has 3 different shoots on 3 different days,
I click "import" then uncheck all photos, then recheck the just the photos I want to go to "that" file. not all the photos moved that I rechecked, and also when I go back to "import" all the photos are not in order anymore!
what am "I" doing wrong??
