when I take the card out of my camera and plug into the card reader, which has 3 different shoots on 3 different days,
I click "import" then uncheck all photos, then recheck the just the photos I want to go to "that" file. not all the photos moved that I rechecked, and also when I go back to "import" all the photos are not in order anymore!
what am "I" doing wrong??

There are options at the bottom of the import screen to allow you to order the images the way you want to see them.
Did you opt to have the files "moved", or simply "copied"? After the import, did you use Explorer or Finder to go to the destination to confirm the images are there/not there?

Always glad to help.
My first version of LR was #3. After I installed it, and got to looking around, I realized I needed to have something to help me understand all that it does. I bought the book, Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Classroom in a Book, and it was the best move I made. Started at page one and worked through the entire book. It took me a few days, but it covered every single function of LR and gave background info on what it was doing. I highly recommend it. Available at Amazon for certain, but probably other places too.

Good!! The important thing is that your not trying to wing it. It just helps to have some amount of instruction.

Have all 3 folders (not files) been setup in LR? If yes, why not just import all pics into 1 folder (not file) then highlight the ones for folder (not file) #2 and drag them into that folder (not... you get the point) Then repeat the process for folder #3.
If they have not been setup in LR, import all photos into a single folder. Create your new folders in LR then use the above method.
I am wondering if you use keywords to find photos you are looking for or do you rely on your own to find said photos?

Hi Redhogbill how are you doing?
Glad you answered your question. Seems like I have to re-answer that one now and then I forget where the buttons are. I agree LR is not a simple organizer.
When you say you want to "move them" from your card do you want them deleted from the card after the import? I think there is a check box for that but Danger Will Robinson! I do not recommend that! Sometimes imports fail (stuff happens) and a re-import is needed!

Glad you figured out your issue.
Its useful to remember that the LR Import function has 4 basic options, one of which is selected at the top of the screen.
"Move" leaves you with one copy of the image in the location you designate in the right hand panel.
"Copy" leaves you with two copies of the image - one in the original location and one in the location you designate in the right hand panel.
"Copy as DNG" works the same as Copy, except the new version of the file is in DNG raw format.
"Add" simply tells the LR Catalog where your image is and "registers" it (another way of saying add) in the Catalog.
Hope the above helps.

hello JD, hows life??
I agree, "move" probably not be a wise move, just incase there was a problem!! I usually down load everything then put the cards back into camera then format cards!

I have LR 5.7.1 and when I plug in the reader and go to "import" photos , there is only the "copy" or "save as png" the "move" is greyed out.
now, if there was a photo on my hard drive and went to import it , it gives me the "move " function also.
crazy, just crazy!!!!!
thanks for input
I got "Phil Steele" learn lightroom, it is actually very informative, a lot of tutorials, and he is pretty thorough!
I find that mostly its "MY" memory!! I have to keep going back!!
"MMMMMM was that info on the 3rd tutorial or was it on the 6th tutorial???MMM guess I will watch them both again!! heavy sigh" said Redhogbill!!!!!
