“reliable rumor” surely suggests oxymoron? 😎

This is CR1, lowest reliability.

Let the pixel peepers start salivating! For me I am happy with my 5D MKIII....

70 megapixels? It almost sounds like overkill. I have been using an 18 megapixel camera, and am upgrading to 24. I just can't imagine how much 70 m would upgrade that? Is that really necessary? If so, I can't wait to see one of its photographs.

It will sell well.
The D850 is way overkill and pixel peepers bought it in droves.

Will that also mean replacing all one's Canon Lenses (as seems to be the case with the Nikon D850) with Leica lenses? And the poor female models, they all look like dermatology pathology medical photographs, showing every hair, skin flake, pore and practically bacteria on their skin. Then hours of Photoshop retouching and image softening.

I get along fine now with 14, 16, 24 MP cameras. I never print to larger than 16x20" anyway, mostly 8x12" on a 11x14" sheet of paper.

I remember when all the rage 6megapixels was super great and folk said there’s no need to buy a camera with 16 to 18 megapixels.
And so it goes?

All Canon EF and EF-S lenses since 1987 work 100% and better on the R system cameras. So not like the D850 AF lenses that will not work on the Z cameras

For now. There is a company working on an adapter with a motor for the Z.

Although I wouldn't refer to the lenses as D850 lenses. The AF lenses that require the in body motor predate the D850 by quite a few years. I believe they still 'work' as manual focus lenses.

https://nikonrumors.com/2018/11/28/two-new-kipon-nikon-z-autofocus-adapters-to-be-announced-in-early-2019.aspx/

All these adapters make the question "Which lens should a buy?" a little more difficult to answer.

From what I have been reading that is true. But that was not my point. I was saying a 70MP sensor would challenge most lenses that exist today. And as far as I know Leica lenses have always in most of their models been at least slightly better than nearly any Japanese lens. But of course nearly all my lenses are Japanese, and fine for at least up to 24MP. 70MP is many times the resolution of 35mm film! To my understanding films are like 10 to 14 MP Cameras if one can even compare the two media.

I agree Nikon may have erred with changing lens mounts.

dpreview said the same thing, same specs!

Canon has a 250mp sensor that they use L lenses on.
The photos look incredible as far as detail.
So at least Canon lenses are just fine for high mp sensors and don't fail.

Unless it is a wall poster you will probably see zero difference. 70 megapixels does not necessarily translate into better images.

I would be inclined to agree.

Most people won't be able to afford the camera body or the glass to mount on that beast, never mind the space to store files on a every day computer.
