For me no need not because I know it all but I like being self taught and everything I don't know is at my finger tips online.

Yup that’s how we all get Ph.D.’s — don’t go to a university and find a mentor/advisor, just wing it with Wikipedia.

I've taken his workshops (lessons). His only post work may be a tiny adjustment to the exposure and a search for dust spots. That's it! His goal in his workshops is to have each student understand their camera settings and how to use them. He's a Sing-Ray Ambassador and they designed a new ND filter in his name...Randall J Hodges Mountain View Neutral Density Filters. (Sorry, didn't mean for this to sound like an ad.)

My local newspaper sports photographer "Randy Hoeft", I've learned so much from listening to him.

Great collection of photographers!

All of the mentioned are very good and I would add Harry Callahan and Arron Siskind which I was fortunate to study under.

I think he is retired now after being wounded in 2014, but at one time, I would have liked to shadow James Nachtwey during my more adventurous years. For a more current list, it would be Joe Buissink, Niel Van Neikirk, Dennis Reggie (considered the Godfather of wedding photography), Joel Grimes, Mark Rebilas, Jeff Cable, Steven Meisel.

I've been impressed and inspired by Edward Weston since I first picked up a camera, c. 1969. To me he showed the world that photography can be an art form. more conpemporary artist would be Tommy Ingberg, a modern day surrealist.

Tommy Ingberg would be very interesting to shadow.

School is good too, I think even artists study the masters at University. It would be a dream for me to take courses in Photography at a great school.
