Yes, but my point is - don't assume you have carte blanche rights to images - read the terms and conditions.
Again, speaking as a long-time contract negotiator,
read the agreement. Here's what one site (PicMonkey) says about the topic (bolding is mine):
"
A quick note on licenses: all the image sites featured here offer free stock photos. However, the license may vary. Many are “Creative Commons Zero,” which means they are free to use for any purpose, including commercial, with no attribution required. Images sourced from Flickr are often CC2.0, which may be free to use commercially but require attribution. Additionally, you’re on the hook to be sure that the subject of the image (people, logos, private property, etc.) is clear of rights infringement.
Basically: When in doubt, check the license. When in more doubt, contact the photographer. When in most doubt, don’t use the image—go for another one!"
There are many useful sources of fee-free stock photos without any encumbrances. But, they're not all alike. Be careful what you use publicly.

Most of them are appropriate and can play an important role in fulfilling our needs. Specially the generic free stock photo sites.. they don't need to ask permission from or provide credit to the image author.
So, we can be fearless to use them. :)
many of those 'free' sites host images for which they dont have copyrights, so it's dangerous to assume you can use their pix
safest if you're looking for free pix is to use creative commons images

This is really a terrific think we should to the inquiry before taking them. Because we believe "Fair use is not the same as free use".
a quick look at pexels shows MANY people images with no model releases -- those can't be royalty free
AGAIN - claiming to host free photos is usually a red flag unless from a reliable source like adobe (where they have paid for the images in their royalty free collection)
