As a horse lover and amateur photographer, I can appreciate the beauty of these wonderful photos. Now, if we can just keep the Bureau of Land Management from destroying these magnificent creatures it would benefit all of us with an understanding of how these animals helped us pioneer this great country. And, those who consider horses an “invasive” species may want to check out where the first Equus species first appeared.

A short drive out of the Phoenix area on the Bush Highway will bring you to the desert areas that lie along the Salt River. This area is known for its large herd of wild horses and it's possible to get out and hike among these beautiful animals. The winter months around here have been cooler and wetter than normal and although this isn't what the tourists want, it's exactly what the horses need following the years of drought that we've been experiencing.

I hike the desert scrublands with my Canon EOS M3 combined with a 75-300 mm zoom which allows me to get good close-ups while keeping a safe distance from the horses but it's still amazing how close they will allow you to approach before they move out of range. The photos posted are usually zoomed to max and cropped for aesthetic presentations.

Nice work, we are lucky to have these horses here in Arizona. Where exactly did you find them, I would like to go down and shoot some pics of them.
