Without realizing it, AOC has royally screwed over her own constituency, and does so with a smile a mile wide. Every time she opens her mouth, there's another big batch of voters who switch leanings from Democrat to Republican. So, AOC, keep on talking. In 2020, Trump and Republicans will be very grateful!

Her constituency think she helped them. In fact I am sure it will be in her campaign literature for 2020. They are just that stupid like ALL libs and democrats are. The largest uneducated group on the planet.

My daughter lives near Racine, Wisconsin, where FoxConn, amid much fanfare and taxbreaks, promised 13, 000 jobs, many of them factory jobs. Now theyve pulled out of that plan and decided they can't make money doing that and instead will hire R&D people. Meanwhile, real estate prices and rent rose, people and businesses had to move, and the community is left high and dry.

There are so many instances of businesses getting large tax breaks and then leaving within a few years. When will governments wise up and stop making these deals?

Hey "Blue Morel" I couldn't find any examples of businesses bailing a few years after getting large tax breaks. Id appreciate if you would share who they are.

I really enjoyed hearing how AOC was proposing that NBYC spend the tax break that isn't going to happen.

One thing is certain though. AOC has received more national TV coverage than any congressperson, except for Speaker Pelosi. And she has not been on the job for two months yet. Even Whoppi Goldberg, a devout liberal, said she should learn her job first. Before coming out with her such wonderful idealistic policies. That will affect all of us. And, she will be reelected in two more years. No doubt. No one would dare run against her. Based on her popularity now. Her District.in NYC is solidly in favor of her.

Contra: Rush Limbaugh said on his radio show on Friday that there was some evidence AOC's "constituents" were actually happy she had stuck it to big business, even though it meant they, and all of their neighbors, would never be able to apply for new jobs that might have been created by a new Amazon HQ.

The youngest voting generation, which has received the most thorough indoctrination by left wing teachers for the longest part of their "education," seems perfectly happy with unemployment if it means that some actor who they have been taught is evil doesn't "win." Never mind that the actor will just take its business elsewhere and make some other community grow richer with it - they didn't do it in MY neighborhood, and that makes me more virtuous than you. Even if I'm unemployed.

The level of economic illiteracy on display today is truly shocking. And things don't seem to be improving.

I read a story that her posturing claiming credit for "defeating" the Amazon HQ has pissed off a LOT of Democrat power players in the state, from the Governor on down. The party didn't take her seriously when she ran in the primary against the 48-year (or whatever) incumbent, thinking she didn't have a chance, and so didn't do much to oppose her. And once she won the primary, the election was over.

But if the big boys decide it's time to run somebody against her in 2020, the theory is that big money will become available, as will the institutional dirty tricks that the party has refined over the last century. And the state Democrat apparatus will almost certainly have backing from the national Democrats as well, who don't appreciate AOC's off-the-wall grandstanding with positions that even blondes know are economically silly. (Saw a report yesterday that blondes are starting to tell AOC jokes - hence the comment. ) So it's not a slam dunk that she will be unbeatable next round. At least that's one theory.

Go ahead and denigrate AOC and make it a political issue. That is what the ill-informed are want to do. But those that do obviously do not know the facts. First of all, studies by several groups have found that huge tax breaks and concessions rarely...IF EVER...pay off. The businesses hardly ever bring the number of jobs they claim. The ones who were going to get rich in the Amazon deal were contractors, lawyers, land speculators, and politicians. The average Joe six Pack was going to get priced out of already expensive housing, higher general costs, and higher taxes.

When I was in high school, the city gave Goodyear MILLIONS in incentives to keep the plant open. In my Junior year, a cute new girl (and her dorky brother) moved to our school district. I asked her what her father did. She replied, "He's here to coordinate the closing of the Goodyear plant." So while the city gave them millions, they were planning all the while to shut the plant. Which they did.

Good for NY to tell Amazon to fork off. They have plenty of wealth. Give the same break to small businesses and see how much faster your economy and tax base will grow.

I agree! Not to mention local taxes the city would have received from the 25,000 well paying jobs plus the trickle down economics from local prosperity. You talk about cutting your nose off to spite your face! How dumb can some people be?

Warehouse jobs at Amazon typically pay $12-$15 per hour. Not exactly "good paying"jobs.

We shall see. Anything is possible. The incumbent she ran against had more campaign money than AOC. He lost. Minority Speaker at the time, Pelosi, made arrangements for the incumbent to get money, because he was a member of the old folks Democratic club. Just like Pelosi, at age 78 right now. Pelosi is expected to be Speaker until 2022. At 82, she will most likely call it quits. Pelosi, in California is called the Money Lady. You need it for her campaign causes, you will get it. Her giving money to a Democratic challenger to AOC, would IMO, be out of bounds for Speaker Pelosi. And could backfire on her. Pelosi wants to go out with a Legacy. Being the only woman Speaker ever, and doing it twice. Beto O'Rourke, who was running against Senator Cruz of Texas, had $80 million in donated Democratic campaign money, and lost. It was a close victory for Cruz. Cruz was slightly more popular than O'Rourke. Maybe not so in the next 6 years. Who knows? AOC didn't deserve any credit for the Amazon deal going down. It was a State issue. Which I described in a previous thread. AOC, IMO will be difficult to bring down in her NYC District. Radicalized or not?

Actually, AOC’s position on losing the NYC area jobs is totally consistent with her Socialist philosophy: Why work when you can get everything for free?

Hopefully the media-grabbing AOC and some others from the modestly-veiled countries will help us reach a tipping point where Americans have had enough of the subversive rhetoric and join together as we’ve done in the past. What’s happening today is like “Death by a thousand cuts”. And that is intentional.

I believe the plan was for Headquarters II for Amazon. That would be a huge step up from warehouse jobs. Of course there will be lower paid clerical and support staff, but they make more than warehouse workers. And thousands of people at the Seattle HQ make the $100,000 cash salary cap (company wide - Bezos is limited to that amount too) with the rest of their pay in 5-year-vesting stock bonuses. Those bonuses become taxable when they vest.

IIRC, the boroughs in NYC collect local income taxes, so there would have been increased income to Queens from that, as well as the additional economic activity in the neighborhood that would flow from the construction and operation of a business that large.

Here is a break down to see just how much NY lost if the jobs paid only $15.00 an hour!

25,000 employees x $15.00=$375,000.00 @ hour

$375,000.00 x 24 hours = $9,000,000.00 @ day

$9,000,000.00 x 365days = $3,285,000,000.00 @ year

And that's 3 billion with a B and sorry NY, it's all gone
