Let the games begin. And some of the folks here say that digital photography will go by way of the phone.

The one possible downside that I have noted in a quick look at the specs is that it uses, due to space restrictions no doubt, the LP-E17 battery rated at 1040 mAh rather then the LP-E6N which is rated at 1860 mAh. Battery life could be a concern, not that changing batteries is a big deal. The EOS R can be a bit of a battery hog and I would expect the EOS RP will be also.
The EOS RP uses the same sensor as the 6DII, just as the EOS R uses the same one as the 5DIV. As with the EOS R, the EOS RP can use any RF lens and any EF or EF-S lens with the adapter.
There is little that my 5DIV can do that my EOS R can't and the EOS R has a number of features the 5DIV doesn't. I would expect the EOS RP to compare just as favorably to the 6DII. Should make for an outstanding entry level FF camera.

I believe that the battery chosen is this is aimed at almost the Rebel user.
Most likely not take more than 150 photos in a day or less.
For a FF camera at the equal price nearly as the first digital Rebel, taking into account inflation, is very appealing. The price is the appeal and you don't have to buy a Sony that looks like it is a work in progress and not figured out as the a7 and a7Ii are

If the RP did better than 5fps, it would be a "total" no brainer...

You do realize that the A7iii was released April 2018...not even a year old...

About the only Canon crop body more than that price is the 7D II. All others are less. However, it IS a new entry level price for FF.

It is a FF Rebel.
Not a sports camera.
Pros used to think 3fps was blazing.
For the money very amazing.
Fully articulated screen that most all other FF do NOT have.
Light weight and screen great for vlogging.

1,299.00
Rebel audience
Get the R for the sealing.
Amazing the naysayers for an entry level audience camera.

No articulating screen, lower resolution, costs a heck of a lot more, weighs a lot more, is larger.
Finally it can't use EF and EF-S lenses better than the native EF mount on an EF body. The control ring makes sure of that. So the excuse of using EF on the Sony is now a bad joke having to settle for poor performance using an adapter.

You were initially comparing it to the A7iii...that is where my comment came from. A7iii is not entry level.

Why would you want to use canon lenses on a sony with an adaptor, when there are plenty of great native lenses for it...I hate that argument. Buy native lenses...oh wait...it's canon that you have to adapt since they don't have a lot of native lenses right now.
