I am still in the initial phase of getting to know my new Z6 so this may turn out to be
no problem. I find the EVF very frustrating in low light situations where I am using a flash. The EVF sees what the sensor sees which is essentially nothing, so composing the shot is difficult at best. I never encountered this with an optical view finder in low light.
Also, I do a lot of close up work where I want to essentially black out the background by using an aperture of f16 or higher and using the off camera flash to control where and how much light I want. Now it seems I have to compose at f4, focus and then set my aperture to f16+. Like I said, there may be an easier work around than I have discovered.
Other than that I love the camera the rest of the time.

Reading the manual may reveal the trick to seeing well through the EVF in dark environments. My Panasonic Lumix GH4 can have a brighter EVF in dark environments than any other camera I have ever used, including the legendary Nikon FTn.
D8 was the culprit. Turned off “Apply settings to live view” and all is well. Like my new camera even more now. Thanks again everyone.

Good to know! Thanks for posting the solution.

No no no ... you hafta read it slowly and 2 or 3 times
to catch what he's saying. More clearly:
"When in AZ,
if I encounter someone using a Z6, I will ask him if he
is named Jack ... cuz if he's Jack, he might be you" :-)
.
I left out something earlier in the thread about electronic shutter. Along with enabling d5, you also have to turn on Silent Photography. I seem to remember doing that to use electronic shutter. I don't know if that's something you will want to use. Just thought I would mention that.

But Jack may not be the name of the other 200 people he asks throughout Arizona. Kind of a crap shoot in that regard.

My First Mirrorless Camera, Ca. 1983.
I think I would struggle more with that one. Very nice though.

Have fun. Actually, I do have another semi-MILC (mirrorless anyway, hybrid EVF / OVF) camera, a Fuji X100T for my wife. I may get a full-on MILC Fujifilm XPro2 for my self.

Not really. It's gonna be a while before there's
200 old timers seen using the Z6 in Arizona.

Good answer. But it was only a joke to begin with. Nobody would take the comment seriously.

Well, if you see an 85 year old in Scottsdale with Z6, just yell out!
