I am really enjoying everyone's bokeh today! As noted by others, the way the quality of bokeh is affected by lens choice (aperture setting, number of aperture blades, etc) and proximity of subject to background is quite interesting. If moved to do so, please include your setting and lens choice with your images. Thanks to all who have posted so far!

Thanks Haymaker. So true - even a somewhat ugly vulture is worth a second look.

This last couple of years I've been trying more close-up/macro. I’ve a lot to learn, but my most severe limitation at the moment (apart from being menu-challenged) is that my eyesight is not good enough to check the focus on the viewfinder for perfection.
I guess I never really noticed that before, with my preference for landscapes with focus set to infinity! Now with close-ups, if the camera doesn’t focus as intended, then I get disappointed. So number one this summer is to work on my focus control.
Here are four, from which I have learned a couple of things apart from the focus challenge (image 1). I think an uncluttered background is important – image 2 is too cluttered and the background is too close to the subject; image 1 would have been good in those respects. I think good isolation of the subject in relation to the background is important. Images 3 and 4 show that too, with #4 being the preferable of the two on grounds of both clutter and isolation. But I could also argue that the bokeh makes #3 the more interesting photo.
I think bokeh is a natural product of this kind of work, but so far, I just let it take care of itself, although it is going to be a product of concepts regarding composition too.

I really like the frost covered teasels.
In reference to the "City Scape" manually made bokeh posted on p.8 I did a couple things to it. Bokeh is very versatile #1 is 2 images, 4 layers. Then, I scrambled it for #2 (which if it weren't for Creativ Simon is something I likely would never have thought of doing)

Interesting pattern in the bokeh! Well done reflections with a hint (I think) of stained glass?
I went back and took another look - it's on the base - you really have a good eye!
Birds and bokeh go together.
"Bokeh"......Thanks for the opportunity to be able to use some of those blurred photos that we somehow saved, but may have thought about deleting! Bob

I would never claim to be an expert on this subject, but I think I get it right once in a while.

3 and 4 are beautiful examples!

Love the flower girl with her brightness and color set against the darkness of the blurred suits. Excellent!
