I know this is a bit early, but that is what the schedule allows.
Bokeh is the pleasing quality of out-of-focus blur in a photograph. It is derived from a Japenese word meaning "blurred" or "hazy".
"Understanding Bokeh: The art and science behind the beauty of blur" is an article that goes into more detail, but there are many.
I find it interesting how different environments and different lenses create bokeh. Looking foward to seeing everyone's interpretations!
For fun, I attempted creating my own shaped bokeh by affixing black construction paper over the edge of my lens. Below are some of the results.
I used scissors and an exacto knife, but if you have some of the shaped hole punches, I am sure yours would be more uniform

I used to have, may still have a commercially made set. And I have made some of my own also. So much fun to experiment with. I have one that looks like a dragonfly. Really fun effect!
Here's one that comes to mind right off. He's 55 now! I had a Rollei at that time, and have always regretted trading it for a 35mm Minolta. I had been using a 35 mm gizmo with my Rollei for colour slides, but it had a too-narrow field of view, but not narrow enough to be useful.
Hhmm - clicking on the download, I see there was already deterioration in the emulsion when I scanned that photo. Sorry about that.
