My last central Florida safari turned up this eastern Meadowlark picking his meal out/off the ground. Someone posted a Meadowlark the other day here on the Hog and I was surprised that they are so scarce and skittish in general from the comments made ! - but after thinking about it, I guess they ARE ! - and they are a gorgeous bird with GREAT song !
Where I go, I am fortunate to be able to photograph them at great length !
Canon 80D, 400 prime, 1.4X, from carpod in dappled open shade....as always, shot as JPEG and PP in Elements 9
I do not know what it is he is eating ! ? - thanks for stopping by .....
..
Nice portrait of a colorful bird. Lucky you have them around. Looks like a grub maybe in the beak but my eyes are tired tonight.
What a wonderful and colorful bird. Great job Larry!
Lovely bird and a very pleasant backdrop Larry. Scrub coloration really seems to enhance the bird's colors!

Larry, a fantastic photo and a DDL really shows off the excellent sharpness and details.

You are right, Larry...they are a beautiful bird with a beautiful song. Ours should be returning in the next month and I always enjoy photographing them!! Excellent capture too!!
I used to see them as a kid 70 years ago or so in every open field. Now not very much! I have not seen even one the last 5 years....I think I will start actively looking for them this year. Probably due to less open fields & farming, weed control & pesticide use I guess. Their songs are indeed most beautiful! I remember being stopped in my tracks the first time I heard one in a Meadow...had to be special to stop an active boy loving life!
Hope I can get one even picture close to the quality of yours! Great shot!
