Went from an Inspiron 17R with1600 x 900 display to Dell XPS with 3840 x 2160 resolution with recommended settings and all the icons and display sliders in Photoshop are too small to read. I bought this computer just to use with Photoshop and now I can’t read the settings or use the sliders. Help!

I have gone through three XPS 13 4K laptops in the last 6 months which I had to return to Costco for many reasons; one of them for not being capable of scaling graphics properly. It seems to be a common problem as Dell’s quality control issues continue.

Either dial back the resolution on the entire display to 1920x1200 or so, or scale the interface in Photoshop - Edit->preferences->interface.

I have the same problem with a large screen Lenovo so the problem is not brand specific. In Win 10 you can try - Settings, Ease of Access, "Make Everything Bigger". Also - Settings, Display, "Scale and Layout". These helped me.

See what resolutions are available, choose one with the same ratio. The 1920X should almost double your UI sizes.

You can always scale back the screen resolution or endure the inconvenience of switching back and forth, but then there is no point to having a 4K monitor...the purchase was a waste.

The best solution is to get the subscription PS/LR. You will have additional features and all your images will look better.

Increase the text size in Windows 10 (not the resolution) and along with text any objects like menus, dialog boxes, and even sliders will increase in size as well. A couple of mouse clicks.

I know this option works in the browser and may work for other windows type programs, so try this:

Open the selected window
Press and hold the Ctrl while using the mouse roller/scroll
What happens is the selected image increase or decrease in size depending on which direction to roll the scroll wheel.
You'll end up getting or seeing a message saying the image size has increased by 110% etc Just keep adjusting till you get the desired size.

I don''t currently have PS loaded so I can't speak to that application, but it works with just about anything else I run. Its now called "scale and layout" and does the trick. Since in my experience it works with everything I run, I'm surprised it has no affect on PS.

With version CS 6 it is possible to create a photoshop external manifest file that would fix the photoshop scaling problem. https://www.danantonielli.com/adobe-app-scaling
This method worked well on my dell xps 15 9530 (3200 x 1800) running windows 10, but you would need to be very confident in editing the windows registry and of course backing up and recovering your system files and data should anything go wrong.

You have a 4k laptop now. You need to make some adjustments to the operating system so that you can see larger icons, and interface. You need to do the same in all your Adobe products as well. Some apps will not run properly in 4k. I have an app for calibrating my screens, and it's not designed for a 4k monitor, so I have to change the resolution to 1080 and then restart the computer, then calibrate, then change back and restart the computer. What a pain, but it will take software companies a little time to find and correct these problems for 4k and eventually 8k displays.

Even with a 32" monitor they can be hard to read.

Thank you Gene , just bought a BenQ sw2700pt monitor 2560 x 1440 QHD 3d lut had same problem . Works great on the PC windows computer. I get a message on the MAC with El Capitan " Mcintosh always uses AUTO scaling " I guess no work around ? I sometimes use either Computer depending on need , reason , I have numerous 32 bit and 64 bit plugins , I cant replace running on standalone versions of CS6 in windows 7 premium . Thanks again...

The best solution I have found is to use dual monitors. I use a small monitor for all the menus and such that display the fonts far to small on a hi-res large monitor.. I have no idea if your OS allows for dual monitors. A high end graphics card may be necessary.
