Hi Kenievans--

Great advice-!

Will do the the nighttime paddle boat

Will do the trollys-- tip to tail

Will do Sun Studios

Will EAT-!

I live in downtown Chicago, a true foodie town, but we're not known for BBQ or Fried Chicken

But we do have crime, and I'm sure our dirtbags makes your dirtbags look like members of the Mickey Mouse Club.

Thanks for inviting me to get back in touch with you with any questions

I will make sure to message you when I post my photos.

Craig Tucker

BBQ / Fried Chicken (or some really good oysters or whatever)

Anything Worth Seeing-- particularly funky old beat-up neighborhoods

Thanks

Lorraine Hotel (where MLK was assassinated) is interesting and a half block away from Central BBQ - very good!

I've never been to Memphis, but Nashville is the Athens of the South - for various reasons. There is a full-size replica of the Parthenon in Nashville.

The Peabody hotel for the duck walk in the morning and Rendezvous for the best ribs in the USA. Lived in that area for ten years and these two are a must if you've never been.

I have been to Memphis once. On a drive through. Some years later, I was in a Bar. Two men were seated at the counter. One of the men was from Memphis, the other from Austin, TX. The debate was, who has the best barbeque. Texas specializes in beef, because they have so much cattle there. And Memphis specializes in pork, because they have so many hogs there. It's a matter of choice between the two meats. Beef or Pork.

I have lived here most of my 67 years. Lots of great shots downtown, on the river and in the Mid-town area. I would echo the suggestions for the Beale SPeabody, Sun Studios, Graceland, and Rendevous. There are 2 bridges across the MS river that are lit with LED light that change colors at night.

The Memphis Belle, the WWII bomber, sadly is not here anymore.

There is also Dixon Gardens and Galleries, the Botanic Gardens,

Pink Palace, St Jude and the Great River Road (HWY 61) heading through the river delta and the home of the Blues.

Feel free to DM me for more suggestions and recommendations.

Thanks Gatoroach--!

The Lorraine Hotel it is. I had forgotten about King.

Did the lunatic who had shot him do it from a building right across? Gotta look that up

The Madison Hotel (a few blocks from Beale Street, the Rendezvous, and the Peabody Hotel) has a rooftop bar that affords spectacular views of downtown Memphis and the Mississippi River. Recommend the views just before or after sunset, but anytime is worth a visit.

I don’t know. I forgot to add the Memphis Bell also makes for good pictures.

The Memphis Belle is not there anymore. They almost let it get destroyed down there. It is now completely refurbished and in the US Air Force Museum at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. Do a search on this site for the Memphis Belle. I forget who it was, but one of the members here posted photos he took at the museum and they are great photos.

The Memphis Belle will go on display at the Air Force Museum once it has been completely restored. It is no longer in Memphis. If you are interested in zoos, Memphis has a wonderful zoo at Overton Park.
