Thanks for all the reply’s. We all see these sweet deals out there in cyber land. Once I saw the price on one of the fore mentioned lenses I had to ask. My budget is so tight I can not afford a mistake, even a $50 or less one unfortunately. So, decision made I will be saving my money for a Canon “nifty 50”. Why out a cheap lens on a Canon 80Dw makes perfect sense. Again thanks. If anyone has a used one for sale hit me up.

Good choice, you can find the used Canon 50mm f1.8 for very good prices and at 125 is a very good price for an outstanding optically lens and you will like the STM focus motor as it allows for good video without the noise associated with AF lenses even the super silent USM series.

I bought one for my canon 77d. As soon as I installed on the camera it would shut off the camera and it would not restart. Only way to get camera to come on was to remove the lens.

Looking for info on Yongnuo lenses. I am shopping for a nifty 50mm and an extender in 1.4 or 2x for my Canon 80Dw. Does anyone have any knowledge on this company? What would anyone else buy for their first nifty 50mm and extender?

I've read the reviews I'd stick with Canon, in fact I have the Canon 1.8.

Remember, with lens and everything else, you get what you pay for. High quality lens and expensive and worth the price, if one can afford them. There is no substitute for quality.

A Canon Nifty 50 cannot be beat in price for quality of lens. Don’t waste time on anything else.

With money that tight, check out (Google) KEH for a good used one. The Canon 50MM 1.8 STM is crack sharp...new a little over $100....used but good to excellent condition. Just went to their site and found a Canon 50mm 1.8 II (a generation or so older than the STM) but still a very nice lens rated excellent plus for 96 bucks. That would be a good deal. Keh offers a guarantee and a 14 day no questions asked return policy.

Add on: I also saw the newest STM model used excellent for a little over $100 but still less than new. I would buy new if I could since the price difference is relatively small but either way, you end up with a great little lens for not a whole lot of money! And I do agree with another poster who already mentioned the new model STM is definitely better than the II model.

That close in price seriously consider the STM version.
I have the II version and very good but slow and noisy with the AFD motor. But for my purposes that is not an issue.

I have and enjoy my Yongnou nifty fifty on my old 50d however it is soft at under 2.8 after which it is fairly sharp.

Note that there are currently 2 versions of this lens. The newer version has a metal lens mount, and appears to be better than the original.

I purchased the original version (Canon mount) for an upcoming trip. Have not used it much, but so far, appears to be not great, but OK.

For just about $100.00 more you can get a Nikon 50 1.8 refurbished with an additional 10% off. Just sayin. I would prefer the Nikon over the Yongnuo.

A good point but, the OP is shooting a Canon 80D.

I have the yuongno 100 f/2 and i love it! Tack sharp and quiet, it is so much fun to use. Don't have their 50 but have heard great things about it...my point is that the 100 f2 was cheaper than my canon 2x converter and i dont lose any stops. Really...the 100 f2 was 160 and i bought the newest 2x verter on ebay for 220, if memory serves me. If 1.8 works for you, get the newest canon version and go for the yuongno 100 f2...even if you get their 50mm 1.8, at 100 the converter will force you to 3.6 and that's just plain silly. The whole point of that lens is the wide aperture and amazing clarity with excellent bokeh.
Bottom line...save the teleconverter for long lens fun - i use mine for baseball (200 @ 2.8 x 2 = 400 @ 5.6) - and go prime. Why would you give up f2 at 100?

I have a Yongnuo 35mm. f/2 for my Canon. Very nice lens. I took the most amazing closeup off-the cuff snapshot of my dog with it on AF setting. The in-focus detail is astounding.

Don't forget a 50mm lens on your 80D will give effective field of view of an 80mm lens.
The 35mm lens gives effective 56mm field of view. This is a "normal" focal length.

You take your chances in function and quality with a tele-extender. Canon's extenders won't even work on anything but select long L lenses.

You have a lot of sources for a nice used one, look around. New or Used - Local Camera Shop, B&H, Adorama, Cameta, Hunts, Roberts, Amazon and Used KEH, MPB, Usedphotopro(Roberts), Ebay, Amazon, etc...…..

I would question using any teleconverter, name brand or otherwise, on anything other than a top-line lens. For Canon, that would be an 'L' lens. Based on what I have consistently read here on the 'Hog these extenders will soften the images of anything other than the best lenses. I would stand for being corrected on that opinion since others here will be more knowledgeable.
