Winter is the best time to live on Lake Superior and the Boreal Forest. Sunrise and sunset are over the lake and the ice and cold can make for some nice images. These were taken on the Grand Portage Reservation at Hollow Rock. This is much photographed in the winter especially since you can line the sunrise up with the gap in the rock (provided the ice hasn't closed it). These were taken yesterday, -13 degrees F, no wind. Cold temperatures on Lake Superior creates sea smoke, which makes for nice soft lighting. We have had a very cloudy fall and early winter, so it was nice to see the sun.

Nice set. All of them. Number 3 is especially appealing.

Thank you very much, all. Living along Lake Superior, with the big lake and the BWCAW it's hard to take a bad photo.

I can truly appreciate the beauty you have around you so masterfully captured as it is. However, I will let you take them while I stay a bit warmer. For me, winter is time for indoor photography projects for the most part.

Beautiful images! I've been on the North Shore several times, including a week at the Blue Finn last year, but never in the winter. I think it would be interesting to spend one winter there just to see what it's like.

Winter is the best time up here for photography. We retired up north because we don't like heat and humidity. Winters are great. Thanks for all the compliments.

#1 and 2, closely followed by #3, are great shots. I'm thinking 1 & 2 are wall-worthy.
