Greetings. First post on UHH.

I do all of my photography these days with a D7500. However, for an upcoming overseas trip, i’m wondering if an old D3200 body would be satisfactory for IQ while saving weight? This is a standard site-seeing trip, primarily cities. I’d be using the same lens(es) either way, and I could deal with the menus on the D3200. Won’t really need the higher FPS, and i’ll be shooting RAW. Am I overlooking anything? Are there any other inherent issues about the D3200 that would make this a poor choice?

Travel lenses - now there’s another HUGE topic for another day...

Many thanks. Looking forward to the group’s collective wisdom.

I have the 3300 and 7200(just got). The 3300 is now only back up...... Take your 7500. It's what your used to.... And will be happier with....

I think the D3200 is good enough but... for me the D7500 isn't any more difficult to carry with me than the D3200.

If there is a chance of the D 7500 being stolen, you might think about taking the D 3200.
Also you might think about insurance..

Then I guess that’s a pleasure I will have to live without. I like to keep my eye on the viewfinder most of the time and the 7500 I demonstrated for a week had zero appeal. One size does not necessarily fit all.

For sure.

One advantage of the touch screen on my D5600 is that you adjust iso with it while looking through the viewfinder. Alas, they didn’t provide that feature on the Z6. But it has a well placed iso button, and my D800 had an “easy iso” feature that I often used.

Fixing/Floating the ISO is easy from the viewfinder. Setting metering mode is the one common adjustment that I often take the camera away from my eye to do. But I almost always leave it in spot anyway. I find that developing my button memory is really the fastest shortcut.

I use multiple cameras. The buttons aren’t in the same place so that drove me nuts. Plus they were unlighted prior to the D500 so I couldn’t find them in dim light. Not an issue using the i screen, greatly enhanced by touch feature.

And that’s why they make ice cream in both chocolate and vanilla.

But to return to the OP, it seems that the overwhelming consensus is to go with the more capable body for the tiny weight penalty, no?

Your not giving up image quality by using the D3200 and the smaller size and lighter weight of the D3200 (no matter how miniscule) can go a long way if your always going to have the camera with you. This is a judgment call only you can answer.

Damn-it! What is so difficult about knowing that "you are" is contracted to "you're"? We, as a nation, are graduating grammatical dolts! Grade and Middle school instruction of the near past is sorely lacking.

Weight difference is not that big. I would take the one I am most comfortable with.
