Before everyone gets their panties in a wad over a non-issue read below (if you don't know the process for a Constitutional amendment). If anyone wants to go to the source simply read Article V of the Constitution. And answer the question at the end.

Old legal saying (as best as I remember that is), "One can indict a ham sandwich, but the process will throw it out before the bread goes stale".

************ History Class in On ***********
Article V of the Constitution spells out the processes by which amendments can be proposed and ratified.

To Propose Amendments

In the U.S. Congress, both the House of Representatives and the Senate approve by a two-thirds supermajority vote, a joint resolution amending the Constitution. Amendments so approved do not require the signature of the President of the United States and are sent directly to the states for ratification.

Two-thirds of the state legislatures ask Congress to call a national convention to propose amendments. (This method has never been used.)

To Ratify Amendments

Three-fourths of the state legislatures approve it, or

Ratifying conventions in three-fourths of the states approve it. This method has been used only once -- to ratify the 21st Amendment -- repealing Prohibition.

The Supreme Court has stated that ratification must be within "some reasonable time after the proposal." Beginning with the 18th amendment, it has been customary for Congress to set a definite period for ratification. In the case of the 18th, 20th, 21st, and 22nd amendments, the period set was 7 years, but there has been no determination as to just how long a "reasonable time" might extend.

Of the thousands of proposals that have been made to amend the Constitution, only 33 obtained the necessary two-thirds vote in Congress. Of those 33, only 27 amendments (including the Bill of Rights) have been ratified.

************** History Class Off *****************

Question: Now how many truly believes that any such aforementioned amendment would make it to the floor of the House or Senate?

I don't give a rat's rear what a politician thinks. Everyone has the right to an opinion whether its a stupid opinion or a brilliant opinion; but it will never, let me repeat never make it to the floor of either sides of the Congress, much less gain ratification. The issue is, at best, a specious statement and argument. Move along citizen, nothing to see here.

Yikes! Just when you think the GOP can't get any worse for women...

I call BS until I see it from a credible source. This is just partisan fear mongering.

I am not trying to add fuel to this fire but I do have a question to present for discussion. Please understand that I do have mixed feelings on the topic of abortion when it comes to rape, incest or mother's health so I'm not really taking sides here.
Here's the question......Why is it O.K for an expecting mother to give a doctor permission to take the unborn baby's life but if a thug or drunk driver harms the mother in a way that kills the baby he will go to prison (as I think he should)?
Again, this is just for discussion. Not for argument...It just seems that there are two sides of this coin each with its own set of standards.

Republican Platform Panel Backs Blanket Ban on Abortion

Republican drafters of their party’s 2012 platform reaffirmed support for a constitutional amendment banning abortion that would allow no exception for terminating pregnancies caused by rape.

Concluding two days of deliberations in Tampa yesterday, the platform committee completed a 60-page draft of political positions and principles that will be submitted for adoption when the Republican National Convention begins Aug. 27 in the Florida city.

That is a very good question. In most states it is considered murder if the criminal actions of one causes a pregnant woman to lose the child. However in other states it in not considered murder. Remember the poor lady who was killed in the recent shooting in Colorado? She was pregnant, both she and the child were killed, yet Colorado law did not allow for an extra murder charge against Holmes. Yet the same people who support abortion were angry because he could not be charged with it. I am not talking about pro-choice supporters here on UHH, I do not know their stance on this subject.

It's just unbleaveable in today's society that women have to put up with this kind of crap. The R&R crazies suck up to the slogan on their poster saying "Working for the Middle Class". This a full blown lie right from the start. Their whole agenda is to spread a bunch of lies. They know that alot of that crap will stick and they are counting that will be enough to get them elected. They sence the President is vulnerable and they are going after his weaknesses on the economy and jobs. This side show on womens rights and other distractions is just the dressing for what's to come. They've got the Koch brothers and other screwball big money people out there just slivating at the bit to spend their money of untrue lies about the President and his policies.

greymule, I think you'll have to agree the article from Huff-Post is quite vague on the important points, and it wasn't even a slow news day. In light of the Todd Akins incident I can't believe they need a "filler".
If the GOP is involved in a war against women, how did they wind up with so many outstanding women in their ranks?
I, personally don't believe in abortion except in cases of rape, incest, or threat to the mother's life. However, since I don't expect to be pregnant, my personal feeling really has nowhere to go. I recuse myself.

Don't even TRY to tell me that that idiot Akin doesn't represent the Republican Party. This plank of their platform mirrors EXACTLY what he thinks - punish the rapist but forbid the abortion. I wonder how many women are on the Republican platform committee, and what the was gender-wise to adopt this plank.
