It appears perfect for marking camera eqipment. The kit really is only $5.

It allows you to register what you mark. Something I need to do anyway.

Thanks for the tip. I just signed up.

This is great if the police dept. will cooperate. I had my iPad stolen in LV. I was able to tell the police where it was by using the find my phone app. They said that unless someone was hurt, they couldn't help me.

Someone was hurt! YOU. You should have told them that you were hurt. You were not hurt physically, but you were both financially and mentally.

My thoughts are how many law enforcement agencies are going to invest their resources in purchasing the UV light, "special" camera, and officer training? The light may not be very expensive, however, the "special" camera probably would cost somewhat more. Just my 2¢.

It is provided free by the company. Check the links.

Thats the problem with living in large cities. They are too busy with larger crimes. Most small town police would be happy to take you to the place, recover your property, and arrest the thief.

To all,
And what is to prevent thieves from eventually obtaining a UV scanner, finding the ID# and scraping it all off?

Wouldn’t need the scanner to do that. The answer is nothing. Some thieves scrape off serial numbers. Most don’t.

The question for you to consider is, “Do you want to increase the chances of getting your stuff back by 50 times? Or not?”

If not, don’t bother with it.

I think it’s a great idea. I ordered a kit. Thanks for posting

That vid's not an "investigative report"--its a sales pitch.

I went to the conpany's web site: no external endrosements -- nothing from any
law enforcement agency.

Police departments in cities where I've live had said they perfer that items be market
with the owner's driver's license number. If cop sees one of those on a recovered item,
he'll probably run it. If he sees anything else, he probably won't.

The FBI has your drivers license number on file. How is this privately issued PIN
any better?

There are thousands of police departments and other law enforcement agencies
across the country. How many of them have ever heard of "The Foundation to
Connect the Dots to Reduce Crime"?

It's a scam.

Haven't read through the entire thread so this may already have been mentioned, but it seems to me that if insurance companies are onboard with this technology police departments are sure to follow.

Many and varied comments here.
I have read the comments and as one stated, how well does this stuff wear? Perhaps on a camera where you might not handle it would be fine. But a ring, at least mine is really beat up on the exterior and inside is exposed to friction and skin/sweat acid or whatever.
Also many other valuables have regular cleaning etc and does this wear well or come off.
I like the concept and perhaps as time goes on will be refined more and more.
Thank you for the article.

Police departments take their lead from insurance companies? Since when?
