I take my camera; iPhone, iPad and the Apple “dongle” with ten 128 gig SD memory cards with me on all trips.—a separate card for each day.

I upload a days’ shots at the end of each day through the dongle onto either the iPhone or iPad.,They all get uploaded into Photos. They then go into iCloud and then to both devices.
I then remove the SD card from the dongle and store it into slot #1 in my card carry case preserving the images on the SD card till I get home.,i put the next card into the camera and use it on day #2, etc. repeating the same process each day.

Apple’s Photos app has gotten sufficirntly advanced to do basic editing. For more advanced editing, I use LR CC on the iPad or if necessary on the iPhone simply by importing rhe images from Photos’ camera roll for further editing via LRCC which easily sees Photos camera roll.

So, by the time I get back home, all my images are in 3 places: the SD cards, icloud and the “keepers” are in LRCC.

I find that as I develop better photography skills I don’t take as many shots as I used to so upload times are shorter as WIFI gets faster.

My iPhone is always in my pocket, my IPad stays in rhe hotel room safe.

Same here BJW. Download each nite to iPad and cloud, store card for when I get home. Use different card each day. Had my camera stolen in Sept in LA but only lost half day of images since the rest of the trip before then had been downloaded and saved to iPad and cloud including my nephew’s wedding photos I had taken. BTW I never post vacation images to social media until I get home. Don’t need to tell the whole world you are away and not at home. Might as well leave your doors unlocked!!

Apple makes a device with a Lightning connector at one end and an SD card reader at the other. Inexpensive and it works great. See B&H link below. I believe there is also a version for newer iPads that use a USB-type connector.

That's it, works great, pics go right to iPad and to the cloud (if you have it set up that way)

This ravpower device looks like a top notch solution, both for photos and otherwise. Thank you for sharing this idea.

Doesn't seem to work for transferring RAW files, though.

I have used on my extensive travels a colourspace UDMA 3 storage device. It has slots for both the cards you want. It comes in various storage sizes so you can choose what you need. I have a daily routine where I create a new folder in the device and download the days photos into that folder. I then sync with a portable hard disc so I have protection from a crash or theft. I always seperate where I pack and keep the two devices. I one goes missing I have a copy. After I have the two copies I format the cards in my camera and start the day with a "fresh" card. You can view your photos and enlarge them but it is purely storage, not for editing. I have used it now for 2 years and my trips can be up to 8 weeks long. It is terrific. LaCie has also released a rugged storage only unit this year. I didn't think it offered what UDMA 3 offers. It has no screen.

That would be an issue for me that I do not have with the Surface Go. I have ordered one of these devices, so we shall see. I have other uses for this--but am hoping I can use it for photo needs, including RAW.

I use memory cards. They conveniently fit right inside the camera and capture all of the images I take, until they are full. Then I insert a new card.

Curious to know what travel device do you use, to store and edit pictures, when traveling.. on an overseas trip I can easily take 8000 or more photos.. I use a mac 27 desktop at home with LR classic CC.. I used to use a lap top when traveling along with an external drive, but my apple laptop is a 2010 model and is not really functional anymore.. I shoot, primarily, with Canon 5dm4 so I use both SD and CF cards., I know I can buy another laptop and use it with an external travel drive to back up and edit when traveling, but would love something smaller.. like iPad ( so I can read with it , instead of my Kindle,, to help minimize electronics to carry along) but I can’t figure out how to download from both cards and store that many files on an iPad…I tried calling Adobe to help, but they couldn’t answer my questions…So I turn to you all, for any suggestions. It would be most appreciated!..Right now, all I can see is purchasing another lap top, and I really was hoping that was not the only solution… thx

It depends entirely on the travel. On car trips, especially to see relatives, I take all my gear (Canon SX720, Canon SX50, Nikon D3400, Nikon D610, plus all the lenses), plus my Dell XPS laptop and external hard drives, and sometimes a good tripod. With the Africa and Costa Rica trips, with SEVERE!! limitations on weight, I took the two Canons and lots of cards. On a trip to the Pervian Amazon, with even more severe restrictions, I took a couple of pocket cameras and a small camcorder. Also, when I'm by myself, as opposed to with wife, that dictates when and where I stop to take photos, thus the equipment. But in my amateurish opinion, that Canon SX50 is truly the most flexible and powerful lightweight, small, camera I have ever used.

I travel quite a bit and I found the Apple Mac Air to work great. I am sure you can find a Mac Air 11" used at OWC. Since you are already using Mac software, it makes sense to check the Mac Air 11" (a full-computer, very small, thin and light).

Minimize the number of cords and chargers if you can. For example, I can use the same cord and charger to charge my phone and my Surface Go. Have a plan for the extra items needed.

This is what I do as well. I don't know if they have an adaptor for your CF card; but the one for the SD works great. I have an older iPad with 128 GB of memory and there's plenty of room for thousands of pictures. This is what I took when we went to Ireland. I imported the pictures of the day each evening, and had a slide show in our room of the days sights. Worked like a charm...small and lightweight. Doubles as a Kindle as well!

I use a RavPower WD-03 which is a portable self-powered wireless router and SD card reader.

I also got one of these on Gene's suggestion for a month long trip this year to Paris and a week in the countryside. I also took my My Passport Wireless Pro, and used both to back up the SD cards from my trip. Both worked well and I backed up over 7000 files. I never reformatted my cards and kept them as original source backup.

The Rav-Power was attached via 3.0 USB to a portable HD, actually two, and download was simply done by pressing the SD to USB button. The Wireless Pro has it's own hard drive and download was as simple. I did have a tablet on my trip for communication, but never planned on using it for any photo use.

The difference between the Rav-Power and the Wireless (besides the price) is the Rav-Power downloaded each SD card into a new folder. Sometimes. I downloaded one day and continued to use the same cards the next day... the next day's backup would be a new folder containing the previous day's files and the current day's files. The Passport Wireless Pro also downloaded each day's backup in a new folder, but arranged the files by date exif so there weren't any duplication of files within the folders.

If I were ever able to vacation in foreign lands, I would take my trusty camera, and several large capacity memory/CF cards, and ENJOY the vacation, leaving the PP to when I returned home.

I was hoping someone would come up with the Mac Book Air. I absolutely love it for travel. I upload every night and then also save photos on flash drives and store them in two different places. That way I have two choices and the Mac Book Air is a great computer. I also save everything on my memory cards as well.

It does transfer a Nikon NEF file. Still trying to figure out how best to use it. Seems versatile. Windows 10 Defender shut down some of it's connectivity as a security risk. But it does work to create a little local net not connected to the web.
