Next year it will be 2019. If you are born in 2000 and are 18, that's 2018. Next year 2000 plus 19 will equal 2019.

It depends on if it's before or after your birthday of the current year. 2017 if before, 2018 if after. What is the thousand year thing all about?

I was born in 1938 and I am 79 years old. 1938 + 79 = 2017. This math does not work until after the eve of your birthday.
Since my BD is 12/20/1938, on Dec. 20, 2018, and after, it will work.
