Incredibly, it was true last year also. Your age last year + your year of birth = 2017.
For something that happens only once every thousand years, having it happen two years in a row must really be exceptional.

It sounded very interesting but then I tried going back one year and two years and it worked out to be 2017 and 2016, so the thousand year part is incorrect. However, it still is a cool math trick.

It is simply addition: Your birth year plus your age MUST always equal to the current year!

Actually, your birth year starts January 1. Your birth date could be then but it's more likely to be some other date. If your birthday is July 1, then for about half a year your birth year plus your age is the current year minus 1. After that, it will be the current year.

1954 + 63 = 2017. I fall foul of this every year but for one day. Guess when my birthday is?

Your age plus the year of your birth always comes out to the year you are in. What is it that only comes out every Thousand Years? I don't get what you are trying to put across.

Anyone's age plus the year of their birth comes out to the year whether today or any year you pick to calculate it. I don't get what you are trying to say about "every thousand years".
