Hello,
I have been researching the M4/3 cameras for a bit of time and agree it is not on its way out w/all the offerings and new models out there from the major camera co. I do have a ? for those of you who use them. I do a lot of outdoor work, and that includes hiking in New England mountains. I am looking to get a lumix G-7 for the fact of its size in particular. How does it stand up when you do active hiking etc or a lot of outdoor situations. I know it is not sealed like my Pentax K is but any other issues? lastly kit lenses that come w/the G-7 14-42 & 45-150. I am taking a trip to Chile in March so treating myself to this camera possible. Thanks for any thoughts. Paul

If you are going to be hiking and shooting outdoors , I would want weather sealing. Look at the G85 which Panasonic says is the new model of the G7, same size, but with 5 axis stabilization and weather sealing. https://mirrorlesscomparison.com/preview/panasonic-g85-vs-g7/

Go with the Lumix G85 it has better weather sealing and 5 stop stabilization and they removed the low pass filter for better image quality $700-800 will get you the camera and a 12-60mm lens. One of the best bangs for your buck out there

Be true????

O announced last year the end of production the Four-Thirds (4/3) lenses and thus the end of the 4/3 system; its successor m4/3 (micro Four-Thirds) is alive and doing apparently quite well....Not to worry!

I just purchased the X-T3 after selling my D500 wondering if purchasing from a company that has the smallest camera market share would be a mistake later. I bought it anyway as I love the features, ease of use and the picture quality. Oh, the size is perfect. Not worried now if Fuji shuts down their camera division years from now.

And apparently you fell for it early on. Congratulations.

How many times has OP's question been asked and answered before?
Very nice proof, Linda!

it is interesting; there was a guy who posted an article replete with graphics showing how much money Olympus has lost / will lose on 4/3, and predicts its demise

May I suggest a good read... " Living in the Now ". Way Too much anxiety worrying about tomorrow; There is NO tomorrow, only the present. So go out and enjoy that marvelous camera you have and capture some of that Present.

While I do not own a 4/3 camera, I have enjoyed the insights of David Thorpe through his blog and youtube videos. A retired professional photographer who has a extensive knowledge base has chosen 4/3 as his digital camera system. I wouldn't be too worried about the format's future. (I might be one of those people who has watched too much PBS TV and is now a sucker for an English accent regarding authority)

Many thanks to the several folks who gave a shout-out on my kitty pic. The dark leaves with "Hungry Eyes" is a composite. In fact, the eyes belong to the kitty close-up posted earlier

Sensors keep getting better, no denying that. The main buggar to many is image quality and thus, for a given sensor size that too keeps getting better. At a certain point great is good enough.
Light weight and smaller size are all the rage. When one adds all of this up, 4/3 makes a lot of sense. The same holds true for DX. If one is in need of more tele reach, even more so.
Markets determine viability. If more folks want smaller lighter (cheaper) photographic tools and recognize image quality that meets their needs, it sticks around.
Cell phones certainly show that sensor size is not the whole story.

Film is dead? B&W is dead? Add 4/3? There are still millions of film shooters out there along with the more esoteric folks who make their own paper, make salt prints and calotypes and tintypes to name just a few 'dead' processes. Check out prices on vintage large format equipment including wooden view cameras and 4x5 press cameras.

Assuming the OP is of legal age, m 4/3 will out live him.
