Using old AF Nikkor lenses on DSLRs

Thats pretty much all I use.

The main thing you need to know is if the DSLR has a screw drive built in. I believe the 7500 does, I know the 7200 does.

If so the the AF and AF-D legacy glass works great and opens up a plethora of legacy glass.

IMHO the older NIKKOR glass is generally better built.

The real trade off becomes weight.

A 2.8 of the same focal length will weigh more than a 5.6 modern lens with VR. More glass and more metal. The VR is offset in regular shooting by faster glass ... and the faster glass allows higher shutter speeds for fast moving objects along with a more pleasing background blur when shot wide open.

MT was very polite in his response to your two statements, which was a lot kinder than what I was thinking of responding. UHH is a place to learn the art of photography and it just doesn't happen if people aren't sure of what they answer to good questions. Some of my best lenses are D, and ais lenses fired on my D700 and D810. Lastly, if you were on this site longer you would have figured out what MT's expertise is.

I’m sorry, calling someone stupid is not polite or kind . I feel the very least we can do is be nice to each other. I understand this person has anger problems, but what is your issue. I am committed to helping this person work on his issues in this dark time in his life. God bless and happy thanksgiving.

I have several old Nikkor lenses, a 50 mm f1:1.8, a 35-13mm f1:3.5-4.5, and a 70-300mm f1:4.5-5 I used on my N8008. Nikon’s lens compatibility chart indicates they are fully compatible with many Nikon digital cameras suggesting they mount and the auto focus works properly. I’m considering a D7500 or D750. Has anyone had experience using these older lenses on new DSLRs. I know they are heavier than the newer lenses but would like to know if there are any other drawback such as image quality. Has anyone actually used them on newer DSLRs (i.e., D7200, D7500, D750)? Thanks for your help.

The issue with older AF Nikkor lenses is that do not have an autofocus motor in the lens so they rely on an af motor in the camera body. Both the D7500 and D750 have such a motor and so the lenses that you used on your N8008 will work perfectly well. If you were to mount them on a more entry level body (D3000 and D5000 series) they would need to be manually focus.

My issue is you don't know of what you speak and your appearing to be a stalker using religion to impress justify yourself. Enough said.

I do not believe I ever used religion to impress anyone, all I said was God Bless. You really need to lighten up a little. If you don’t want to be Blessed that is fine and does not make you a bad person.

When you are done with all the nonsense, go back and read all of your posts. If you can find one that actually answers the original question accurately would you please point it out to us. I looked and can't find one.

It’s pretty cool how you put part of your post in red.

They will work fine on Nikon bodies with a built-in autofocus motor. The only drawback is somewhat slower autofocus.

I think you are correct. Either that or they aren't man or woman enough to say "sorry", I made a mistake.

I learned a long time ago it is best to say I'm sorry. Sometimes just saying those two words can be most rewarding.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.

I have a 50mm 1.8 from my F5 days. It is my go to on my D600. Works great.
