When I go to my local camera store I see the item, try it out and pay for it then take it home. I don't like the on line stuff. I travel about 2 hours now. Had a store much closer but they went out of business before the on line stores had to charge sales tax. Now I think this store will stay in business.

On my Windows computer, with my mouse set up for single click, as I have always had it, if I roll my pointer over anything clickable its address will appear in the lower left corner. For example, just above this window I am typing in is an ad. Rolling my pointer over it shows it to be from "adclick", not UHH. If you are set up for double click I imagine you would have to put your pointer on it and single click. An easy way of telling what is click-bait and what is legit. Since it is a browser function I would think Mac works the same.
The Internet has no morals!

Not that out of touch to fall for such an obvious scam.

HAD to get a new cell phone; HAD to go from an old flip phone to a smart phone. Glad I have a granddaughter to teach grandpa! HA! My point, at the Verizon company store, I was signed up for insurance on the phone and was not even asked if I wanted it. I had to go back to Verizon a couple days later, and another person helped me; that's when I found out about the insurance, when that person reviewed the previous transaction. I was more than a little annoyed! My experience was then related to the store manager.

Have you experienced buying things on line where you suddenly discover that someone else is taking advantage of you by having you agree to something you thought was the firm you were dealing with? Like I was in the process of buying a Speedlite Flash when I was asked if I'd like $10 off the purchase price -- I quickly answered "yes" because the mailing was free of charge. Come to find out I was "talking" to someone not having anything to do with the firm I was dealing with and I was to pay a fee after one month until ???. The next day I finally was able to let the firm know I did not want anything to do with them.

Well, I was so angry I wrote this firm an Email saying, "When people are in the midst of purchasing anything - you interfere as though you were the SAME business person I was doing business with. I was dealing with a camera store and I don’t find that you had any business passing your “racket” on (to) me or ANYONE ELSE." The crooked business is called "FreeShipping.com".

Did any of you experience this type of scenario? What to do?

Oh boy are you correct. The only thing I take for free is my wife's advise. Day after day after day!!!

I have Web of Trust installed on my internet browsers and get a warning when "free shipping.com" tries to interfere. Just ignore the filth.

I always follow the motto, "when is free not free". Too many things have strings attached and unless you read the bottom line you are likely to get caught.

Even worse is the increasingly common search for a free government function that gets redirected to a website that looks like what you want but is actually a commercial company that now wants to charge you for something your local government provides for free. It deceptively looks and is titled very closely like a government agency but if you looks closely at the url address it is not .gov but .com.

If there is a camera store in your area, go there instead of shopping on line. These places give you the best advice and are always available to answer questions. In our area, we are down to one such store. Luckily for me, it's close to where I live. You cannot get the same service if you buy on-line. We need to support our local camera stores, even if we have to pay a bit more.

Yes, most of us have experienced this type of selling. Welcome to Jeff Bezos' wonderful world of multi-level marketing. Buy from Amazon and have absolutely NO idea of with whom you are in business. "FreeShipping? No such thing! I was hauling packages for the U. S. govt. when Fed-Ex and UPS were novelties, shipping anything is an additional expense that can not be passed on. Get rid of your notion that something can be "free", no such thing. There are more fools in life who went broke chasing "free" stuff than we care to realize. Put your blame where it belongs, nobody forced you to take "free" shipping. Knowing how easily e-mail is trashed I would hardly expect any results. After all, e-mail is "free".

I recently ordered a ladder from Costco that said free shipping and 2 days latter I discovered it was s $20 cheaper in the store. I called up and complained and said it was a scam and the girl agreed with me.

Never click for any "freebies" until you have read the "fine print". Usually the freebie sucks you into a subscription of some sort.

Yes, I have. Sneaky. I avoid all extras - surveys, discounts, memberships, etc. "Free" can be very deceptive. Yes, one thing will be free, but you'll have to pay for something else. Everyone wants your money, and they'll do whatever they can to get it. I try to deal only with known, reputable sellers.

Same here. I found out that once you order something, you can just close the website and avoid all the annoying “promotions “ like “add this to your order?”

Sticking with reputable dealers is the best advice!
