When I was 18, I volunteered for the draft (WTH, my # was 26), and added another year after AIT.

My first PX camera was a Yashica rangefinder. Very nice camera that was in a bag hanging inside a M113. Got banged hard and never worked again.

Bought a Petri fully manual for $120 w/55mm lens. Added a few lenses later and fancied myself a photographer.

I spent most my duty overseas got lot of good shots and bad shots using mostly Agfachrome.

I still have my Petri and the lenses which I adapted to a Samsung NX which seems to yield much better results than the Agfa ever did.

How long after Tet? Hue was not a place to wonder around as a GI tourist with a camera for quite some time. Tet was not anywhere nearly as bad in Qui Nhon where I was and we were restricted as to going into many parts of the city.

I was on a 100 man special detachment to Okinawa for six months than joined the rest of the battalion the last three months in HUE. I was on a
duce and a half truck with three Marines and shot guns. We made stops on the way and I made these keeper photos! You have to be nuts to be
in a war zone with real guns and bullets . . . when you're 20 you think you know it all!

We're lucky, NO ATTACK!!! AP

Thank you for your service! I spent 20 years in USAF, including the entire time of the Vietnam War, but was not sent to SEA. My overseas tours were in Canada, Iran, and Germany and no one ever shot at me. I have utmost respect and admiration for those who went in harm's way.

Bless you for your service. My best friend has complications from Agent Orange so I know what you are going through.

Great shots. I learned to shoot when in the Air Force and it became a hobby for life.

I too, agree with you, Photography is for Life! I'm still learning the importance of a single story telling photographs! Never give up shooting pictures! AP

Thanks for your service. Life was much better for me in Korea. I do think I still have my SRT 101. I was going to include a picture I took of Marilyn when she came over in 1954 but was unable to locate it. That Minolta was bougth later. I'm not sure it was around in 1954.

Hi,Wes! The Minolta SRT 101 that I used to make the pics in HUE RVN, was available new in 1968. Right to this very day, making
photographs stops a moment in time, it's a keeper! Always shoot pictures, Not People! AP

I started photography in 1966 film cameras of course. All these photos were made in HUE Vietnam about 50-60mi North of DaNagn 1968. I made these pictures with my new Minolta SRT 101 bought in Okinawa with a 50mm f1.4 $110.00 new! I was 20 years old in the making, now I am a disable Vietnam Veteran Agent Orange!

Still LOVE cooking! Please, try not to let bad things bother you! I cannot ran anymore and have paralysis on my left side hand and foot, so what! I do everything I want. It just takes me a little longer to do it, and, I'm left handed. Always be good not bad, and always think of Happy Thoughts! CIAO, AP

Thank you. I was on a Special Forces A-Team (Intel SGT) in the Highlands of VN and took lots of photos using a PenEE camera. Unfortunately when I split with my ex she destroyed or threw away the ones that I brought back. I wish that I had them now so that I could donate many of them to the Special Warfare Center Museum and the 5th Special Forces Museum that they plan to build. Happy Veterans Day to all.

Thank You, for responding, Act! I'm disappointed in your lost photos, I too have many to post. This new computer and digital camera, it is a new age of techknowlege, and, I'm still learning. It's slow for me, but I do not give up! You were with the finest military group, that's not a joke!

Thank You, also, for your active duty, hope your in the best of health! AP
