I've bought several cameras from ebay and have been scammed, but , ebay's and paypal garuntee's have come through the time it seemed to be a scam, all the other cameras have been as described and I was extremely happy with the sale. never buy anything thats too good to be true, I won a 7 day action on a H4D 40 MP Hasselblad but in the end got all my money back.
I just bought this lens:

It will arrive next week and will let you know if there is an issue with it. BTW, I paid $146 vs. $369 at B&H
Here is the seller's description:

What you say is true but that doesn't mean a buyer should buy something that with 100% certainty is not what it is advertised as being.
There are many scams going on not just on eBay.
And this one sounded like one. There are at least two dealers selling hundred of these lenses.
I bought it from Tri-State Camera, which has a large inventory of electronics and have sold thousands.
of items.
Well that is huge, check it out with B & H. They are the best maybe not the cheapest but the warrantee dept is key. Stay away from 42 street Photo. What guarantee to ebay offer?
Scams. So i bought a what I thought perfectly good used lens on ebay. 1500. total after having it fixed for 550 more it was a good deal, Not but that's how it rolls on ebay/ Buyer be ware! Price should not be your only factor.

Nikon, Canon, and probably other major camera manufacturers set the prices that their authorized dealers can sell their cameras for. The big guys, like B&H, Adorama, and your local camera dealer, if an authorized dealer, will all have the same price, within a few dollars. This protects the authorized dealers so that the big retailers can't drive the little guys out of business with big discounts. They still do often offer other incentives though. If you find a deal on a new camera for a big discount then it is not from an authorized dealer. As others have stated, discounted items will have a catch. Non-US warranty, missing components, or an outright scam.

B&H also sells gray market cameras.

Barterboxusa even sounds like an import co. If it sounds to good to be true, it is. The other company you mention is legit, and reputable. KEH is good. B&H photo is good and a couple others. I deal mostly with B&H.

The catch is it's GRAY MARKET. The HOOK is, it's cheaper than Amazon, B&H and Adorama.
Yes, it does appear to be a "good deal." However, my "Spidey" sense tells me to beware. When buying something as important as a new camera that you will probably plan to use for some time, I personally would hesitate to bite on this. The price quoted is just too "good" to be trusted. Just my opinion.
It 's not a camera, it's a lens.

Yes they do, but, they don't hide the fact as some do. They call them "Imported" with an explanation if you click on the question mark. With their reputation buying grey market from them and relying on their store warranty is not much of a risk. I haven't checked lately, but, as I recall, with their Canon sales the price for grey market was the same as for the US warrantied item. Currently they show only one grey market Canon, a Powershot which doesn't seem to be currently available in the US, which may explain why it is grey market.
You are taking a substantial risk by purchasing photo equipment from the orient
I have bought several new cameras via ebay.
Sometimes they are new but not the latest model. They may be overstock or from a shop going out of business. I have not had one that was grey market nor have I found one that was a "scam". These peoples business is through ebay. Ebay will dump vendors who are scammers and will refund your money if you are cheated.
