The Zane Gray house faces about ENE and to get an image with good sun light on it means getting up early. I'm 79, I don't get up early!
But here is an image I captured with an eye to pulling up the shadows. (it is almost exactly 1/4 mile up river from the bridge)
Yeah, I don't get up early either. After teaching 8th graders in East Stroudsburg for 25 years, I have the right to sleep as late as I wish! LOL. Good shot of Gray's home.
That is the suspension bridge. The cables can't be seen individually in the pic. The part of the bridge you are looking at contains the suspension wiring. It is very ingenious and merits a trip to see it. This is also the home of Zane Gray. It is a most beautiful area.
It is indeed a suspension bridge, but THE Roebling Suspension Bridge spans the Ohio between Cincinnati and Covington, KY.
Good question! The original bridge was built as an aqueduct to allow barges on the Delaware and Hudson canal to cross the Delaware. when the bridge was renovated the Parks Dept reverted to the original build method which had the cables enclosed within the walls of the aqueduct.
