For me, taking photos of flowers is like shooting fish in a barrel. I am red/green colorblind. Not a good thing when I desire to get artsy fartsy once in awhile. You will see what I mean in the 2nd photo. It was easy to put a black background around the flower, but this time, black just did not cut it. So, I decided to get fancy. After an hour, I gave up. I have no idea what I have here.

I think you are unduly critical of yourself with these, but I can understand your frustration.

Background looks purple to me Tom but it suits the rose. Keep doing them and see what you come up with, could be something interesting color wise that non colorblind folk would not do..

It actually works Tom. The rose is beautiful.
Yeah, the rose looks good, but perhaps I should have not tried messing with it.

I don't think you blew it at all! I really like it. The colors work well together, and the background offsets the rose quite well. I love photographing flower close ups as well.

Thank you, but I think it looks superimposed to me.

That's just it... I am much, much better than this at this sort of thing.

Pastel violet bkg. with a pink flower. Analogous colors.
Yes they are, I wonder if a step or two away would have been better, but this red/green thing has bothered me forever. Sometimes I cannot tell which is analogous, therefore I depend on contrasts. I appreciate the input.

You hit it out of the park! Thank you for posting.
I think I fugured it out. Number two needs a stem with leaves.

The second one could use a stem. Perhaps then I would be happy. Thanks, Rob!

I don't know. You know those tube socks that have stripes at the top? Well my parents thought I was just being eccentric as a child because none of my socks matched when I put them together; and I wore them that way thinking nothing of it.

I like both images, Tom and nice work on the second one!

So every once in a while when your socks happen to match, your folks just thought you had finally gotten serious and settled down!

Yes, a stem with leaves would anchor the rose, but this photo reminds me of a balloon in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, just something innocent and joyous floating up in the sky!
