For me, taking photos of flowers is like shooting fish in a barrel. I am red/green colorblind. Not a good thing when I desire to get artsy fartsy once in awhile. You will see what I mean in the 2nd photo. It was easy to put a black background around the flower, but this time, black just did not cut it. So, I decided to get fancy. After an hour, I gave up. I have no idea what I have here.

Original.

Well, I'm going to compliment the second photo. The blue you picked is elegant against the pink of the flower. It looks like a giant flower floating in a blue sky. I love "artsy fartsy," and this is a beautiful composite. Adding in the water droplets and the thin black frame makes it all work! I don't think you "gave up" after an hour; you were just finished with your creation!

Thanks, I guess! Lol. It had just rained when I took the photo. Convenient. I don't know exactly what color the background is, but I was after what I think burgundy should look like.

Well, the Rose is lovely. The background looks purple to me.

The background does look a bit purple but works very well with the pink of the rose. Both are strong colors

Thanks, but either way, it looks like a very amateurish attempt.

I don't think you blew it at all! I really like it. The colors work well together, and the background offsets the rose quite well. I love photographing flower close ups as well.

I think the photograph is beautiful; in NO way does it look like an "amateurish attempt".
You hit it out of the park! Thank you for posting.
