I stopped work to check the sky at 3:15 a.m. and saw one Perseid. Enough, having seen so many before, and it was time for a good half night's sleep.

I was all set up watching them when it gradually occurred to me that one of my dogs wasn't around....
Didn't worry about it too much as she is old, riddled with arthritis and afraid of the boogey man that (apparently) comes out at night. Well, concern turned to a fully fledged dog hunt which went on til 4am!!!! Without results. I was pretty sure she'd gone down a coyote's gullet by then, but no, at 6am there she was at my door wanting to come in. Happy as a clam, thoroughly pleased with herself and completely exhausted! My only possible explanation for this uncharacteristic behaviour was that early in the day she was more gimpy than usual and I'd given her a pain med. It apparently worked very well. I did see some amazing shooting stars while out looking, though. I live in the desert where the night sky is very clear and bright.

This is a link to the awesome shot a fellow photographer from here in the desert took. His name is David Jesse McChesney and I'd like to clearly state this is his work, not mine. Sad but true, lol.

I dragged myself out of bed this morning new. Enjoyed the show, but all I have to show for it is some rather boring photos of stars and the Milky Way. Caught a couple of short, dim meteors, but nothing worth printing.

THIS is the best meteor shower image that I have ever seen. Read about it below:

That is a great shot!!! I'm a little disappointed that it took a lot of Photoshopping.

Because of the earth's rotation, over several hours the meteors appear to come from different points of the sky. With post processing, original single point of origin can be corrected.

When I was watching them here in Florida, I noticed that they were coming from all directions? I was surprised because I was expecting them to come from only one general direction. These were showing up within minutes of each other. No pictures to prove it though.....
