Five years ago I bought a Qstarz BT-Q818XT- it still works great... just drop it in my pocket and forget about it.... Being self powered, there's no draw on the camera battery and, a charge lasts me two days, easy... $90 -

Yep. The Solmeta units eat batteries, and some of the others are cumbersome. I'll probably have to revert to my iPhone app to geotag. It is a thorn though and Nikon is not making many friends.

I have had good luck with the Promote GPS from B & H. It performed better than the Nikon GP1. The only problem is that your camera must have the old style 10 pin accessory connector.

I do real estate photography for many different people and two have a requirement for GPS. I found the best option with a used D5300, the only Nikon I could find with a built in GPS.

Was just about to notate that, Billy ... but, you beat me to it!!!!

The only other Nikon of which I'm aware, is the P900 - which also includes a GPS ...

But, I think there may well be yet another lesser Nikon bridge, which includes the GPS feature, also ...

And, if you can find one - the Pentax K-3 II - also includes a GPS ... AND the now discontinued Sony a77 - does, too ....

Oh, and one more - the new Canon 6D Mk. II - also has a GPS, I do believe ....

Does anyone know for sure that the Nikon GPS GP-1 compatible with the D3, D4, D800, D810, etc has really been discontinued? B&H lists is as "no longer available" and the Nikon site has it as "archived".

If no longer available has anyone found a similar replacement that just runs off the internal Nikon battery?

Thanks in advance for meaningful responses.

Apparently you are going to believe what people on this blog say, versus what the manufacturer and a retailer are telling you! Geez! Check with Canon or Fuji, rumor is that one of them are going to make one for Nikons.

Festus ... the people on this "BLOG" as you call it - are, generally-speaking - quite knowledgeable, I've found ...

Particularly, in regard to add-on GPS units (as you can see, here) and on those dig cams which incorporate them!!!

Thanks to all who answered.

IMHO the nikon APP for phones is a joke. Watched several you tube videos and all had trouble with it not reconnecting. Just something else to interfere. So I'll go back to my old standby GeoTag Photos Pro. Not convenient but better than a lot of the "solutions" out there.

I will not be monitoring any further posts to this topic.

I can vouch for the D800.

From one of the camera sites, " Nikon Nikon GP-1 GPS Adapter For Nikon D3, D3S, D3X, D700, D300, D300S, D2X, D2XS, D2HS, D200, D5000, D3000, D7000, D5100, D90 & Coolpix P7700 Digital Cameras ".
