I took my D5300 with a Tamron 18-400mm lens with me in March to see the falls. I also took a plastic "bag" to place over the camera, as there is a lot of mist in the air and you will get wet. B&H camera sells these bags, I believe they are made my Optitek. They cost about $8.00 for two. Good luck.

I was there in June with my Canon 70D and a Tamron 18-400. There was a lot of water/mist. Carrying two cameras would be very difficult keeping both dry. I reached the point where it was too wet to bring out my camera at all. A waterproof camera/cover would certainly keep the camera dry but you will be shooting through all the water on the lens and you still won't have a good picture. One camera with your 18-55 will be fine. Have a plastic bag over it.

You will get VERY wet. The slickers they rent don't do the job, you'll be just as wet as without them. Be sure you take adequate camera protection. The hike is an experience worth the time even if you don't get great images with all the mist. I'd do it again in heartbeat. Our travel guide who was on his 13th trip suggested not renting the slickers and taking old clothes and shoes to just throw away after the hike. That worked for us but the maids kept taking them out of the trash can! They were very wearable for the poor people that work at the hotel. Ugly Americans!

Have been twice in past 4 years. Your D7200 with 18-300 will do fine. I too suggest the helicopter from either side. I have taken the chopper from both sides. You will have a wonderful experience with many great pics.

I was there in 2006 and there was and took an ultra lite aircraft ride. I was well strapped in but hung my upper body and camera outside. I had a Panasonic DMC-F27 point & shoot camera (an oldie but goodie). 10.5mm (63mm 35 equivalent), 1/125sec, f5.6, iso 150 from the EXIF file.

There was a water shortage at that time so the falls were not in their glory!
