I am in search of a laptop model and configuration that will run Lightroom without the significant delays that I experience today. I am trying to avoid a desktop as I travel frequently.

I would like to cycle between photos in develop mode in 1/2 second vs the 4,5 or more that it takes now.

When I use a large diameter brush it brings the system to its knees.

Thanks in advance for the input.

I bought this a few months ago and love it. Gorgeous display and runs lightroom like a champion.

I have had a HP Omen for around a year and it works very well for photo processing. Configuration: 32 MB RAM, 2 x 1 TB SSD, 1 TB HDD. To me, a big advantage is that the screen's gamut covers Adobe RGB.

Part of the problem is that LR is not designed/optimized for local editing. That's what Photoshop is for.

Thanks for your comments. Although I do find PS even slower, not sure why.

I suggest you go to the Adobe site and look this up. They have posted a lot of good information on technology needed. Buy as fast and as much as you can afford.

I use a 5 year old Mac Lapbook Pro and am happy with the response time. I am surprised at your lag time - 4-5 seconds to go from one module to another? Unless you have a very old laptop, it should't be that long. How much memory does you laptop have? It sounds to me like you might benefit with just a RAM upgrade rather than a whole new laptop.

You need a fast processor and sufficient memory.

It is about 1 year old. A Dell with graphics processor, 1TB SSD hard drive, and gobs of ram. I had Geek Squad tune it up also.

I shoot raw, so files are 40 mb each. Probably have 1500 photos.

You might want to have it tuned up by someone who knows what they're doing, rather than having the Geek Squad do it.

Try Bridge to Adobe Camera Raw - you get the same functionality without all the GUI overhead. I found it much easier to use.

I am familiar with most computer terms however, "gobs" as a measure of RAM is new to me. Do you mean 32GB? Personally, I use a one year old Dell XPS 13 with 16Gb RAM and experience none of the delays you are dealing with.

Oh, what is your budget?

I have experienced minimal lag time. I have used a business oriented 2017 Dell and now a 2017 MacBook Pro for home. Both Microsoft and IOS work great. I store my RAW pictures on a LaCie external hard drive with lightning cord connection. Western Digital WiFi backup HD. The LaCie and WD interface with both. I store PP photos directly on the computer as well as the hard drives. With both computers: big processors, plenty of RAM, high end graphics cards. These laptops were bought with photo management and processing in mind so that I could work while on a stationary bike or walking on a treadmill while PPing.
