I have many lens for my Nikons that I would like to use on my Sony. I have studied the converters and know which ones work with my equipment ($350) but would like to know if the quality will be as good, not just "sorta working".

I'm missing my fisheye and 105 micro but not wanting to buy another one for the Sony.

In my humble opinion, there is nothing finer than the Nikon lenses.

Their finest are indeed fine - the others can disappoint! (Today's quote from a Nikon owning friend).

I know my lens are great, has anyone used them on another system with a converter?

Yes, but on a Fuji X system, not a Sony. Nikon primes from 20mm through 105mm, with an adapter, of course. Excellent IQ, as one would expect from excellent lenses.

When I swapped my Nikon system for a Sony A7III/A7II system I considered keeping a couple of my Nikkor lenses. Unfortunately, every review I watched on YouTube described Nikon F mount to Sony E mount adaptors as being a bag of nails. In the end, I just bought Sony glass and have no regrets. My choice of Sony lenses easily match/exceed my Nikkor lenses.

I'm so not ready to sell those lens at a loss. That would be like admitting that I'm fickle or something! 😭

When possible it is a good idea to stay with one manufacturer for body and lens. Firmware updates are sometimes to increase lens performance.

I have the Sony a7iir and use my Nikon lenses with a Vello auto adapter. Have had excellent results with my Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8, 17-35mm f/2.8D, 28-300mm f/3.5-5,6g, and 50mm f1.8 lenses. The 17-35mm actually seems to focus faster on the Sony than on my D800; some of the others focus more slowly and may hunt a bit before settling in on a focus point, but all work well on the Sony. If you are near a brick and mortar store, take some of your lenses and the Sony with you to test them out. I have not been disappointed, albeit for the added weight of these legacy lenses. And, I do have Sony’s FE4 24-70 and FE4 70-200G OSS lenses in my kit.

The adapters are just a spacer (No glass) and the wiring connections between your Nikkor glass and the Sony camera to get the flange to sensor distance correct for the Nikkor lenses. What's there to not like???

If you still are not sure just send those old Nikkor lenses to me, my Sony camera will gladly accept them.

Fuji and Nikon have partnered for many years on a variety of products in the past.

FYI, It is more than that. The adapter has to have the software to know the correct algorithms to make proper communications from one brand of lens to the other brands' camera to make them work for autofocusing, and electronic aperture control. If it was was just a wiring connection, everyone could make them work, and some work better than others. Nikon to Sony adapters have had a harder time getting this right than Canon to Sony adapters, due to the differences in how aperture control and lens focus motors work on some Nikon lenses vs Sony native E-mount lenses.

I too have a ton of Nikon lenses (30+) and a few old Canon FD lenses that I use with my Sony A7sII. The Sony is mostly for video and I use the simple manual everything dumb converters. My favorite is the Fotga, Nikon (G) to NEX mount. I have tested a couple of other cheap manual converters and they would not let the lens focus on infinity, plus they were difficult to get off of some lenses.

As Bob Dole famously said, "depends". For example, my Ai-s Nikkor 50mm F 1.8 mounts on my a6500 with a $100 MetaBones "dumb" adapter. In other words, it's as manual as it always was on my FM2. It works very well and is as good as most modern lenses. My other Nikon lens works, too, but is not as good. That's not because of the camera, just that it's not as good a lens.

If there is an AF adapter, I don't know of it. Could be, though. If the original lens was designed for full frame 35 mm film then you can mount it on either FE or APS-C Sony's. The crop multiplier applies on APS-C as you would expect.

There are no electrical connections but there don't need to be. The camera has internal Steady Shot and handles the exposure. The lens can be stopped down manually. I use shutter priority and, usually, auto-ISO.

Of course, be aware that the previous answer that said the adapter is a spacer is correct. That is because the lens to film plan distance needs to match the original design and the mirrorless cameras are slimmer because they don't need room for a swinging mirror.
