The FCC is finally cracking down on the use of spoofed local numbers to robocall you

The other problem is they are not using phone number lists. Since, with voip, many international calls are free, they just set the dialing mechanism to dial numbers in a certain order. One after another. It is amazing how many people will fall for this stuff. It is worth millions. Especially vulnerable are the elderly with the caller saying they are the grandson and accident, needing money from Walmart. Thank goodness Walmart alerted their staff to watch out for this and they have stopped many from losing their life savings. But there is always a fool out there. Someone contacted my husband's millionaire friend and asked for money to bail him out of jail. He said no, and told them to hold him forever. We had a big laugh over that, but thank goodness this guy realized it was a hoax and warned us.

I hope they actually do something. I get three or four of those miserably annoying calls every stinking day. Sometimes they come at 6:00am. Or when I'm lining up a putt at the golf course. I tried blocking them but after blocking 200 numbers I just gave up. I NEVER answer them. When the US Govt. started the no-call list for land lines the spam calls dropped by 90%. But we still get them on the land line once or twice a day. The cell phone is even worse.

THIS is usually why things that OUGHT to be done by Congresscritters for the good of their constituents, DON'T get done.

I've got one with my own number before, but my favorite is this number I get often: (000) 000-0000 !

I got an unusual one today...I forget the number, but the so-called name was "Spam Caller."
Obviously, I let it go to voicemail, and, go figure, they didn't leave a message...LOL

Then perhaps summary executions? I would gladly volunteer for the firing squad
Nevada has been trying to carry out an execution for months but the drug manufacturer claims they don't want the state to use their drugs. The drug maker claims the state obtained the drugs nefariously. The prisoner says he wants the have the execution go ahead. So I was thinking if they can't use the drug why not go old school, i.e., firing squad, hanging, guillotine, gas chamber. I think the state dismantled their gas chamber so that may not be feasible but a gallows shouldn't be to difficult to construct.

If our “revered” national legislators wanted to do something actually useful (and immensely popular), they’d pass a law banning robocalls, with FCC funding for enforcement and hefty prison sentences and fines (1M$ would be a good starting point) for violations.

I agree but I guess we are both hopeless dreamers.

I've written to my fed congressman. His comment essentially was no reply at all. He was also going to legislate that tv and radio advertisers do not turn up the sound on commercials. Yeah right.

I'm still getting these type of calls on both my house phone and cell phone everyday. Haven't seen any decrease here in NY yet.

Calls made by VOIP has made it more difficult to stop the calls, unless they finally have a way to track them.
(I have my cell phone set to disallow VOIP calls.)

Quandary: I use VOIP as my server because it is so cheap and many phone companies use it and they just charge you and arm and a leg. It only costs me the taxes $2.00 plus a month. Where my local phone company wants to charge me $35 a month plus taxes. The rip off is alarming especially when you consider it costs them nothing. We use caller ID a lot and that stops a lot of that. Maybe we miss a call or two but it is worth it too us.

What really frosts me is, if a live person was calling you often against your wishes you could go after them for harassment. But because it's a machine.. Tough.
I had this conversation with the NC Attorney General.
He was sympathetic but zero help.

My wife and I picked up the phone at the same time in two separate rooms on one of these calls...this is 'our' conversation while the spammer was listening:
My wife:"Hello?"
Me: "Hey..." --in a somber voice--
...while the real person on the other end begins her speal.
My wife: "Hey...how are you..? Everything o.k.?"
Me: "No...I got another body I have to get rid of...can you help?"
My wife: "That makes four...you're running out of hiding places..."
Me: "I know...this is the last one, I promise..."
My wife: "...that's what you said on the second one."
Me: "Can you help..?"
My wife: "Sure."
Me: "It's already wrapped in plastic so there shouldn't be as much
clean-up as the last three times."
My wife: "...are you sure, it took forever to get all the blood out of
my trunk..."
Me: "Yep...is your boyfriend home?"
My wife: "No, he's gone."
Me: --very up-beat tone-- "Can I come over and do this later?"
My wife: "Sure! See you when you get here!"
I hung up first, but my wife stayed on and could still hear the other
person and background office noise before she hung up....Can't wait till
next caller!!

I don't have a cell phone (never did), but I receive about 20-30+ of those shit calls every day on the land line, and it is set up to not allow those calls!

I don't even answer my phone anymore. They have to say who they are and I know them, before I answer. Its really bad. 5-6 calls a day. Got 3 from IRS in one day. It's all a scam.
